Does anyone know how much it costs for allergy skin tests for dogs? Also, how much are the shots? Thanks!?

having allergy testing done on my dog was $200 (i think) and his allergy injections were $150 per bottle.

if you are thinking about having allergy testing done, see if you can have blood allergy testing as opposed to having your dogs skin poked with different allergens. blood testing is less expensive and the results are the same.

I'm not sure about the test. It depends on your insurance. But where I live, the shots are about $8 each.
Reply:Never heard of a test, but I had a chow that was allergic to fleas and they gave him a shot once a year for ten dollars, its probably twenty now.

Some breeds of dogs are allergic than others, your vet will know.
Reply:If you call your vet, they will be able to estimate the charges. If you don't have a vet, contact the county animal control and they can suggest a vet and or do the tests you need. I would suggest contacting a friend in your area that has a dog and see who they use and then call them. Most vets have a service schedule (price list) to kind of ball park the costs.
Reply:A trip to the dermatologist for dogs can run around $1200.

An easier way to help a dog with allergies is to find what he is allergic to by taking everything out of the equation. Start with the most common -Food. Most dogs have a food allergy. You can by

Hill's Prescription Diet Z/D formula it is a vegetarian dog food. Don't give any treats. Just feed this food. If symptoms clear up you know it is food related. Dogs can be allergic to common proteins, like chicken beef. Also wheat and corn. Wheat Gluten. Red food dye.

Next continue with the Z/D food, and take away all household irritants like room deodorizers, carpet cleaning powders, use Purfume Free Detergents. No Febreeze. No pinesol.

Also bath dog in Hypoallergenic shampoo.

Make sure dog is on Frontline or Advantage. If it is a flea allergy then that will give the dog hot spots, as well as being very itchy. Flea allergies, and food are the MOST common.

Hope this helps.

PS Don't store food in Plastic container or feed in Metal or Plastic bowl only feed in glass bowl. Could be allergic to metal or plastic.
Reply:Call your vet's office they'll be able to give you some idea of the cost.
