Why I have allergy skin on my face?

The symptom is like a rash and itch and dry

Why I have allergy skin on my face?
The most common cause of allergies is a plugged up elimination system and dehydration. Try eliminating dairy including milk, cheese, pizza, etc... for a week combined with drinking 6-8 glasses of distilled water. Switch the salt you are using to unrefined sea salt.

Also consider a gluten(wheat) free diet if ending dairy does not affect your allergic symptoms.

Consider rinsing your face with diluted apple cide vinegar.

Drink unsweetened fruit juices every day. Add a tablespoon of raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar and a dash of cinnamon to your fruit juice.

Drink a shot glass of grape juice with one small drop of wild oregano oil, a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, cinnamon for taste every morning until symptoms pass.

Consider a Magnesium supplement and Vitamin C supplement plus MSM daily if the above suggestions do not heal your allergic reaction

Allergies are not a disease. Allergies are indicators that your body is mineral deficient, plugged up, and or dehydrated. Most everyone is all of the above but rather than increasing mineral intake, cleansing the body, and drinking clean water, we want a doctor to make the symptoms go away so we can go on as before with no dietary or lifestyle changes. Listen to your body and it can heal itself with food and water.

Yah Bless

Allergy skin test, what do they test for?

I am having one done and was wondering if there is list out there of what they test for.

Allergy skin test, what do they test for?
I have had an allergy test done. It is no big deal, just itches. I don't know exactly were the list is what they test for, but they test for airborn allergins: grass seed, tree pollen, plant pollens, cat dander, dog dander, other animals. I'm not sure exactly what plants, trees and grasses they use. It may be specific to the region you live in, but I found you a couple of sites to look at. The test is more irritating than painful. I have always found webmd to provide helpful hints and the mayoclinic is awesome for most all medical type questions. Hope this is helpful.
Reply:The test can run from pollen, grasses, mold, foods, pets, dander, medicine, etc. It really depends on your history of allergies.

I was tested for about 7 different things I think, on my left forearm. My dad was tested for about 20 - on his back.
Reply:they now do several tests for almost anything, there are different panels they can run or pick things out if they think they know what they are looking for. they can do this with a simple blood draw now, they dont have to do all the pin pricks and rubbing things on you. talk to your doctor because it is expensive. ive tested people for just one kind of panel and it cost them over $100. it will be different in other parts of the states. goodluck.
Reply:When I was tested, they did 30 items: dogs, cats, horses, feather, weeds, trees, grasses, dust, molds, feather and cockroaches.

I was allergic to everything but feathers and cockroaches. But once you know, you can take steps to prevent coming in contact with most of these, with the exception of a pet. I had a cat, and I told them giving her up was not an option so I had to go on daily meds.

For anyone who has had skin scratch allergy testing...?

When the skin scratch tests are done, is ANY wheal a positive or do they have to be so big? I found one site that said 3 mm up and another that said any reaction at all. When our son had his done at the first allergist, they tested 21 foods and cat(plus the controls). It seemed to me that there were 7 or 8 that were raised about the same and a few that were just tiny and other spots you couldn't even tell he'd been poked. Three were even still quite noticeable several hours later!

Our son was only 7 months old old when this first set was done so we realize that the results may not be entirely accurate, that either he hadn't had enough exposure to an allergen to show a positive reaction and that others his body may just be too immature to handle.

The allergist he was seeing only recorded one positive result besides the control. We have since changed allergists because I was feeling the first was incompetant and I am wondering if we shoudl not ask the new allergist to redo them.

For anyone who has had skin scratch allergy testing...?
From my point of view I would say that yes you should get the test redone with the new allergist that you trust. It is VERY IMPORTANT to know what he is allergic to so that it can be avoided .

However, please know that it tends to be a long process to fully understand allergies and that not everything may show up on either of the tests. I am highly allergic to milk but it doesn't show up on the skin test or the RAST. It was only through trying a small sample in front of the allergist that he was able to fully diagnosis it.

Talk to your allergist and voice your concerns. Be very vocal and ask him EVERY question, even the ones you may think are silly. I would bring up the smaller bumps with the new allergist and get his opinion, he may tell you what everyone else is saying but at least you will have a definite answer. This is your sons life your talking about and you have the responsibility to do everything you can to keep him safe.
Reply:he seem to young to get testing done

I think you can get blood test done, might be easier

then you can do the skin test when he is older
Reply:You are your child's best advocate. Get as many opinions as you feel comfortable with. Don't ever feel bad about that. A mom's gut instinct is sometimes better than any opinion.

My son has a yet to be diagnosed allergy. Our physicians have told us that unfortunately testing can be limited sometimes and one of the best ways to figure this out is trial and error, keeping a diary of foods and exposures and then eliminating and re-intoducing things one at a time with at least 48 hours in between starting new foods/other exposures. Good luck.

Skin discoloration from metal allergy?

I found out I had a metal allergy from my belt about two years ago. I had a rash and it eventually went away. I am now left with two spots of skin discoloration on my waist area. I am light skinned and the spots are light brownish. Is there a way to get rid of it? Anything a doctor can give me? Did it work for you?

Skin discoloration from metal allergy?
they tend to disappear on their own normally I had a similar reaction 5 yrs ago and it took awhile to heal. It depends on your scar and how fast your scars go.

no it is scariing use lotion it might lighten it but it wont go away
Reply:This discoloration is due to lack of blood circulation and nothing else. Please do not worry your self that much ,You do require a doctor advice for this if it is wound a mark due to preassure of your waist belt.Other wise All you have to do is gently massage that part of the body regularly for 15 days or so and every thing will be normal .You should also change the place of wearing your belt from time to time and never wear any thing too tight which will stop blood circulation to the skin .

wishing you all the best in getting rid of the spots on your waist

Sensitive skin? Sun allergy? Rosacea? What is this!?

I’ve always had slightly reddish skin on my cheeks, nose, and chin, and have always flushed very easily (people must think I’m embarrassed all the time, but I’m not). I recently read about rosacea and immediately thought that I must have it. But I have other symptoms that rosacea is not supposed to cause…

Sometimes my face flushes for absolutely no reason, and feels hot and irritated at the same time. My skin turns bright red, feels like it is being stretched, and even feels hot to the touch, like I’m feverish. It also feels like every ounce of moisture has simply left my skin. It’s EXACTLY like the feeling of sitting too close to a campfire. I’ve tried pinpointing foods, alcohol, skin care products that I use, clothes I wear, etc., and I can’t find a trigger. I know that physical exertion, warm temperatures, and bright sunlight definitely make it worse, but it happens sometimes when none of these factors are present.

These “attacks” have been happening to some degree for over 5 years now (I’m almost 29), but for the last year or so they seem to have become much more frequent. Now that summer is here (which means more heat and sunlight), it’s happening nearly every day. I’m embarrassed to go out in public with people because I’m afraid my face is going to light up.

Could I have rosacea AND sensitive skin? Or could this be something else entirely?

Sensitive skin? Sun allergy? Rosacea? What is this!?
Go to your dermatologist and have them diagnose it.
Reply:I would get checked for lupus. It is a connective tissue disorder and this is one of the symptoms. Sorry, it is not a good disease.
Reply:I don't know if it is rosacea because one of my white friends has it and I think it was a condition she had for most of her life. I don't think that it can just occur especially in your 20s. But you could have a sensitive skin condition.

You should definitely see a dermatologist.
Reply:I suspect you damaged your skin from repeated exposure to heat which can be confused with rosacea. My suggestion is too strictly avoid heat including all forms for two years. This includes the heat from the sun(suntanning), saunas, steam from cooking, sitting under hot lights, etc. On hot days, avoid putting suntan lotion, heavy makeup, or heavy moisturing on your skin. The oils and lotions will trap in the heat. When you excercise, take a water bottle and spray your face to keep your skin cool. Don't put steroid creams on your face, they thin the skin(atrophy). Spicey food and hot drinks will still cause your skin to flush because you have thin skin and a reduced ability to sweat on your face. I left you the link of the name of the condition I think you have. You don't need to have mottle skin to have it, just redness(erythema).

Is it worth it to allergy test (skin prick) a 3 month baby?

My son has eczema. And the allergist recommended a skin test. But I heard from the pediatrician that it is not worth it since their immune systems are not fully developed yet. Their allergies are not stable at this time.

Is it worth it to allergy test (skin prick) a 3 month baby?
My son also inherited bad allergies, the pediatrician did a blood test called "RAST" and that was a baseline of some of his allergens, so you know what to avoid. That is much simpler for a baby.
Reply:Thats tough, I probably wouldnt do it
Reply:NO, Babies that young get alot of rashes and sniffles %26amp; such... Just wash his clothes in Dreft or Woolite %26amp; let them do the test at one year if it doesn't clear up %26amp; gets really bad... I think the allergist is just trying to jack you for your money!!! A pediatrician knows best when it comes to babies!!!
Reply:Well I was 25 at the time of my skin prick test and after 50 skin pricks I was still not properly diagnosed. The doctor thought I was allergic to wheat or dust. When it was cat hair. Not much difference but it would have saved 2.5 months of useless skin pricks.
Reply:An allergist is going to recommend this because he sees a potential new patient, and therefore more money. Listen to your pediatrician. Your baby is too young to have this done. It is uncomfortable and time consuming, plus the person receiving the tests has to lie still, which would be impossible for a baby. Just treat the eczema, and if your son is having allergy symptoms throughout his child hood, when he is around 11 or 12 you can have skin tests done. Even then I don't know that it's worth it. I had the skin tests and skin pricks done and they showed I was allergic to a ton of stuff, which I knew. I started the shots and all they did was make me sick. I'm controlling my allergies better now with Zyrtec and Nasonex. Good Luck to you and your little baby.
Reply:Better to know what is causing the problem, my son has a food allergy (gluten) that was not determined until he was 10yo. He had failed to thrive and was 50% weight at 10 and is now 70% in 3 years of being on a wheat free diet.
Reply:I would take your Pediatrician's advice on this one. If you are a stay at home parent you can try eleminating different things your baby comes in contact with one by one. Keep notes and that might give you and your Dr. some clues as to the source of her condition. Do the test much later.
Reply:my son had eczema also and we waited until he was 4, we just started from scratch with his food groups and added one per week watching for better or worse systems...3 months is too young and the tests are painful...I would wait,my nephew also had bad skin rashes he out grew them by the time he was2...
Reply:It would be more traumatizing to test him than to let him have the bout of eczema. My oldest son has Pustular Psoriasis and my middle son has Eczema and with both of them the pediatric dermatologist recommended using Dove bar soap for sensitive skin and use Eucerine lotion. Use both daily. You just have to be careful with not getting the soap in his eyes.. Also, for both of my sons I through trail and error found that Purex Dye free detergent works the best. Sometimes it is the perfumes in things that can cause a eczema breakout. Or it can happen when they get hot , they can develop it in the folds of skin like neck area or back of knee area or any fat rolls. For those areas use Pure Talcum Powder because it absorbs more moisture and prevents it from chaffing. Be careful with getting it into the air

put it on your fingers and rub to prevent him from breathing it in . And with my youngest I started from day one with the same soap, lotion, powder

and detergent with her and have not seen anything more than a bit of dry skin patches here and there in the winter.
Reply:No my mother does this all day long and that is the one thing she fusses about.

You do not need to put the baby through it until you have tried everything to see what is causing it and keep it away from the baby.

If you know, then treat the symptoms and keep it away.

If you do not know, keep track of it and narrow it down, only result in the skin test(s) a lot of pricks) if you cant find it,and the reaction becomes life threaten.
Reply:I would think the allergist would have more information about that than the pediatrician. It doesn't hurt to have the skin testing done. He will be more irritated with being held for the testing than the testing itself, It is not like getting a bunch of little shots. It is more of an annoying problem that actual pain. The skin test might be helpful to determine what is causing your son's eczema so they are better able to treat it. My first question to myself would be how bad is the eczema. If it is just a little spot, I would wait to see if it resolved itself as he got older. If he has a really bad case, it would be worth treating aggressively as he is probably uncomfortable with the itching, etc. It won't hurt to wait, and it won't hurt to go ahead. If the doctor is correct and his allergies are not stable at this time, the testing can always be repeated later.

My golden retriever had an allergy skin test 2 weeks ago?

and his blood was sent to Heska labs in CO for additional testing. It came back just 5 days later and the vet is being very vague about the results. He now wants to try a food allergy test because he feels allergy shots won't help. I asked to see the results from the lab and fortunately that particular vet was not there, so they gave me the results (his tech gave them to be with great hesitation). I am curious. Has anyone had their dog tested with just the blood test and how many allergens they actually test for. I have been doing some research and see where others have been tested for foods, grains, environmental, but it appears my dog was just tested for a few things (no foods at all). Is this vet just looking for a sucker to pay off his new beach house (that would be me) or do they only test for a few things? Please advise ASAP... I love my golden more than anything and don't like being taken by someone who knows I would do anything for my baby.

My golden retriever had an allergy skin test 2 weeks ago?
I would definatly go to another Vet.

Allergies are serious business, and if your Vet is just going to not decide to tell your results, then there is something wrong.

Especially if your dog isn't allergic and they decide to make you pay for expensive allergy treatment, they could just be wanting money.
Reply:If I were you I would tell them directly and bluntly that they are being too vague about the results and you want a full explanation of what they found. It is your pet and you have the right to know what the test results are. I would call them or go back in and tell them you need a full explanation of what's been found so far. If they say they need to do further testing then ask them what on the other test results lead them to think they needed more testing.
Reply:first off CALL YOUR BREEDER...

second,, tell us what you are feeding your dog?? look at the ingredients and see if there is corn, wheat, soy , by-products listed ...

third,, i wouldn't go to a vet who was "hesitant" to fully go over all testing done on my dog
Reply:A lot of vets feel that the blood test is not accurate for food allergies. The number of allergens tested for depends on the type of test submitted. My educated guess would be that there wasn't many allergens that your pet was severely allergic to, therefore allergy sensitization would not be beneficial. I would encourage you to talk to your vet about why he wants to put your pet on a food trial and what allergens your pet was allergic to.
Reply:Have 2 goldens, my heart, both of them, 6th and 7th goldens to gild my life. Are you sure it's allergies or could it be hot spots which GR are prone to. (Vet told me to apply Witch Hazel to dry up that condition.

Usually corn is the ingredient responsible for skin allergies in dogs, check your ingredients. My kids love (did an actual taste test with them) Pedigree lamb and rice (won over Pedigree chicken - contains corn-, both products in each bowl.)

Don't have a clue about blood work tests. Wonder why you're sure it's allergies.

"aaawwwuuuuuf" from my kids to yours.
Reply:i would definitely find a new vet. you are entitled to the results and any information regarding your pet, the vet should be willing to discuss this with you without hesitation. one of my dogs was scratching badly and the vet first did a skin acrap to rule out mange, gave her some itch meds. we discussed diet and i was advised to have my family stop giving her table treats. if things didn't improve within a week or 2 then my vet suggested we do allergy test. guess what table food was the culprit, i think your vet didn't have the best interest of your pet at heart
Reply:I had a Golden Retriever that had allergies. What are your dog's symptoms? My dog would bite and lick so much that he'd become bald. We figured out that he was allergic to fleas and would take him to the vet to get a cortizone shot. That is some kind of steroid shot that worked wonders for my dog! Give it a try. As for that vet of yours, any vet who is hesitant in giving results to you should make you wonder about his confidence in the kind of vet he is. Take those results to another vet and get a 2nd opinion. A 2nd opinion is always good. Let me know how he's doing
Reply:The blood tests are extremely inaccurate, but the only option for dogs. I don't know why your vet only tested for a few things, maybe he doesn't hold much stock in the blood tests? You might ask him why it was done the way it was. If you are not satisfied with his answer, then yes, find another vet. Just understand that the results you are looking for may not be found in a blood test.

Many times, the best way to find food allergies is with an exclusion diet.

When do they do the allergy skin prick test on your forearm?

I often hear from people I know and meet about their allergy prick test expirience. All of them have told me that they had the allergy prick test done on their back. However, when I look up photos of allergy prick test on the internet most of the photos show the test is often done on the right forearm and occaisionally the left forearm. When exactly do they do the allergy prick test on the forearm instead of the back?

When do they do the allergy skin prick test on your forearm?
the forarms were where they originally had them, but recently they have started on the back (which is less painful)...just for cosmetic reasons..you wouldn't want all those bumps in plain sight would you? btw there is no real difference btwn the 2...there is no steping stone thing going on here.
Reply:now most testing of adults is done on the arm, they usually do the testing on the back for a child, so the child can't reach and scratch.
Reply:My allergy test was done on my forearm and upper arm. Hurt like crazy, and it turned out I'm not allergic to anything.
Reply:You can tell them what you want, back or arm. If you don't tell them your preference, they will choose which one is more convenient for them.

TX Mom
Reply:The back gives them a more accurate answer but you can choose the forearm if you want. Its up the the person and doctor
Reply:When you give them $800...
Reply:I have never seen this done on the forearm.

As a nurse and as an allergy patient, I would know.

Allergy testing is done on the back of the upper arm.

It is done in a specific pattern to determine a persons allergic reaction to substances.
Reply:it's not when it's done but who does it, My wife has had the tests done many time and only once on the back when she asked the nurse why? she replied that's ho the doctor like it done, so we figured, it really the same, either way
Reply:the pinprick is an indicator to allergic reaction,if you are allergic to a substance , the skin around the spot will go red as your antibodies attack the spot may also become itchy

the area tested is based on preference of the tester.
Reply:I had allergy testing done 5-6 yrs ago. It was done on my back. It is more accurate. Because the hives merged into each other, I also had to get blood drawn for more of an accurate and confirmation of allergies. If you suspect allergic reaction to the environment/food etc consult your PCP.
Reply:could be choice. I worked =for an alergist and we always did them on the back. Larger area and no sleeves to both the places.

Summer is fun but my problem is when its a hot a have an skin allergy especially in my face its very etching.?

Most of the times exposing ourselves to the sun does this... you should avoid using poducts formulatted with mineral oil, animal prooducts or fragrances which all these ingredients are very harmfull for our skin.. Mineral oil is the 2nd worse thing we could do to our skins health for it is like rubbing car oil on our skin and exposing ourselfes to the sun, animal products come from dead animals and these come from rendering plants these plants pick all dead animal and dead animal parts (from meat houses, etc.) and they put it in a huge pot, squash everything and boils it, what ever comes to the top is the oil other companies use to elaborate thier products, gross I know...the lipstick... ewww anyway, that is why i use Arbonne which are botanically based products and way much better because they get absorbed and the nutrients inside the products is what helps our skin look and feel healthy...they are not sold in stores, i buy them online at: http://arbonnepuertorico.myarbonne.com under shop online and you could even ask for a sample , anyway it is a great way to buy becasue they have this money back guarantee if for some reason there is something you do not like from the products you get your money back guarantee (within 45 days from purchase) so you have nothing to loose, only the etching ;~)

Summer is fun but my problem is when its a hot a have an skin allergy especially in my face its very etching.?
I'm sorry to hear that. Etching is a serious problem. I've heard that after etching you me feel a sensation of itching, but you should avoid scratching your etching, as you may damage the finish...............
Reply:Try an antihistamine. Either an over-the-counter or prescription medication should do the trick. Antihistamins stop the histamin reaction that is causing the itching in the first place. Another thing you can do is go see an allergist. An allergist is a doctor that specializes in allergies and he/she will test your skin to tell you what you're allergic to and help you fight the reaction.

I have a friend who is suffering from erythema multiforme....any info about this skin allergy?

any info on how to prevent erythema multiforme

I have a friend who is suffering from erythema multiforme....any info about this skin allergy?
My friend's son had this when he was about 2 YOA. It can be very scary and very scary looking. He (my friend's son) literally woke one morning with circular patches that looked like bruises-all over his body.

She flipped out when she saw him-when he woke up. (It looked like he had been beaten severely) She then brought him over to my house and asked what to do. I told her if she didn't bring him to the ER asap-I was gonna call 911.

She brought him to the hospital and he wound up having Erythema multiforme.

This condition can be brought on by a number of different things. Infections can bring it on. So can allergies to different things.

What I imagine your friend's DR would do-is give your friend Benadryl to help with the itching and help the immune system calm down, oral steroids to help the immune system and to help swelling, and anitbiotics to prevent any infections associated with this.

The severity of this condition can vary largely. It can be mild and your friend can stay at home and take the medications for it and be fine. It can also be very, very serious requiring some people to go to burn units for treatment.

Hope this helps. God Bless you and your friend.

Here's what Medline has to say about this.....

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++...

Alternative names

Lyell's syndrome; Stevens-Johnson syndrome; Toxic epidermal necrolysis

Definition:

Erythema multiforme is a skin disorder resulting from an allergic reaction.

Causes, incidence, and risk factors:

Erythema multiforme is a type of hypersensitivity (allergic) reaction that occurs in response to medications, infections, or illness. Medications associated with erythema multiforme include sulfonamides, penicillins, barbiturates, and phenytoin. Associated infections include herpes simplex and mycoplasma infections.

The exact cause is unknown. The disorder is believed to involve damage to the blood vessels of the skin with subsequent damage to skin tissues. Approximately 90% of erythema multiforme cases are associated with herpes simplex or mycoplasma infections. The disorder occurs primarily in children and young adults.

Erythema multiforme may become noticeable with a classic skin lesion, with or without systemic (whole body) symptoms. In Stevens-Johnson syndrome, the systemic symptoms are severe and the lesions are extensive, involving multiple body areas, especially the mucous membranes. Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN syndrome, or Lyell's syndrome) involves multiple large blisters (bullae) that coalesce, followed by sloughing of all or most of the skin and mucous membranes.

Symptoms:

Multiple skin lesions:

With sudden onset, which may recur

That may spread

That may appear as nodule, papule, or macule

Central lesion surrounded by concentric rings of paleness and redness, also called "target", "iris", or "bull's eye"

May have vesicles and bullae (blisters of various sizes)

Located on the legs, arms, palms, hands, or feet

May involve the face or lips

Trunk is usually not involved

Usually symmetrical

Itching of the skin may be present

Fever

General ill feeling

Joint aches

Additional symptoms that may be associated with this disease:

Vision abnormalities

Dry eyes

Bloodshot eyes

Eye pain

Eye burning, itching and discharge

Mouth sores

Signs and tests:

The diagnosis is primarily based on the appearance of the skin lesion and its typical symmetrical distribution, especially if there is a history of risk factors or associated diseases.

There may be a positive Nikolsky's sign.

A skin lesion biopsy and microscopic examination may be helpful to differentiate erythema multiforme from other disorders. Erythema multiforme may show tissue death and other changes. Microscopic examination of the tissue may also show antibody deposits.

Treatment:

Treatment goals include control of the underlying causes or illnesses, treatment of the symptoms, and prevention of infection. Suspected medications should be discontinued.

Treatment of mild symptoms may include:

Moist compresses applied to skin lesions

Medications such as antihistamines to control itching

Over-the-counter medications (such as acetaminophen) to reduce fever and discomfort

Topical anesthetics (especially for mouth lesions) to ease discomfort that interferes with eating and drinking

Treatment of severe symptoms may include:

Hospitalization and treatment in an intensive care or burn care unit for severe cases, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and toxic epidermal necrolysis

Systemic corticosteroids to control inflammation

Intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIG) to stop the process

Antibiotics to control secondary skin infections

Good hygiene and isolation from others may be required to prevent secondary infections.

Extensive skin involvement may cause the loss of large quantities of body fluids, causing shock in addition to the risk of infection. Intensive care with support of body systems may be required.

Skin grafting may be helpful in cases in which large areas of the body are affected.

In cases that are caused by the herpes virus, daily antiviral medications may be prescribed to prevent recurrences of erythema multiforme.

Expectations (prognosis):

Mild forms of erythema multiforme usually resolve without difficulty in 2 - 6 weeks, but they may recur. More severe forms may be difficult to treat. Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis are associated with high death rates.

Complications:

Permanent skin damage and scarring

Occasionally, lesions on internal organs causing:

Pneumonitis (lung inflammation)

Myocarditis (heart inflammation)

Nephritis (kidney inflammation)

Hepatitis (liver inflammation)

Secondary skin infection (cellulitis)

Systemic infection, sepsis

Loss of body fluids, shock

Go to the emergency room or call the local emergency number (such as 911) if symptoms indicate erythema multiforme. Involvement of a large area of the body is an emergency situation.

Itchy ears, dry skin on face allergy?

started getting daily headaches 5yrs ago. itchy ears started sametime as headaches. left ear inside itches so bad wakes me up. the more i scratch, the more it itches. i can't help but scatch the inside. have dry skin in creases around nose and bad dandruff. allergic to dust, cat and ragweed and cows milk, i've covered bed and pillows with allergen procter, but no relief. every cream try doesn't work. seeing ENT and ALLERGIST but not for months. can itchy ears be allergy to dust? what can i do? want to rip off ears and head for headaches.

Itchy ears, dry skin on face allergy?
here are some tips I found but then you have to remember our body has only a small handful of symtoms yet thousands of illinesses.

an allergic reaction to your blood pressure medicine is a possibility. Some people have seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff) of the ear canals or psoriasis, another itchy skin disorder.

Acetic acid and cortisone are both standard treatments for itchy ears. You might try Cortisporin-Otic eardrops that are a combination anti-bacterial and steroid. Or you could use a stronger prescription steroid, like triamcinolone, to get relief.

Causes of itchy ears:

Ear canal skin is very sensitive. The slightest accumulation of debris, even a dead hair, may be felt as an itching sensation. We will next discuss the most common causes of itchy ears.

Dry ears are itchy:

A normal ear has a thin layer of natural body oil. Some ears produce no ear wax which results in dry and itchy ear skin. Sometimes people compulsively clean their ears and dry them out by removing the natural wax. Dry ears tend to accumulate flakes of dry dead skin.

For people who just lack ear wax, occasional insertion of a few drops of vegetable oil can be helpful. For people who compulsively clean out their ears, we advise scheduled appointments for ear cleaning, usually every 6 months, and avoidance of use of 'q' tips, or similar instruments in between.

with your other problems you do sound like you suff from many types of allergys. Bad thing about allergys is it takes along time to find the exact case, and could be a combination of reactions. With all the flaking in other areas sounds like a form of exema, which there are many types in different areas.

good luck I am sure this is driving you crazy

How can I get rid of my 4 yr old's skin allergy (dryness) below the nostrils?

Put Vasaline on the area at night when he is sleeping, do it for a couple of nights and it should go away.

How can I get rid of my 4 yr old's skin allergy (dryness) below the nostrils?
really thin layer of vasaline below his nose should help but if that doesent work go see a skin doctor about it
Reply:I highly recommend Aquaphor which you can find in the lotion aisle and in the baby section. It works great on cracked/dry skin.
Reply:There are many ways to heal this. You can use vasiline, carmex, or any lip mousturizer(chapstick, lip balm, etc.). Put it on once in the morning, before school, once or twice in the afternoon, and once before bed. Repeat this cycle for about a week or two and your childs dryness will be solved and very soft. If it does happen again, repeat the cycle.

This should help!

everyone reacts to something differently and its also according to what the allergy is.
Reply:benedryl.
Reply:Coritzone 10 Maximum strength
Reply:First try to determine what the heck caused your reaction and remove it/ get away from it. Take a bath with an Aveeno oatmeal packet to soften and smooth your skin. Use a hydrocortisone cream. Cetaphil cream works wonders too. On small sores you can dab a tiny amount of tea tree oil.
Reply:benadryl
Reply:Benadrly or the store-brand equivelent. There is a liquid form and a lotion. The lotion helps when there is severe itching. I would take it along with the liquid.

What would be the best medicine that could remove my skin allergy marks,it looks ugly and makes me feel to shy

Any and all skin creams take time to get rid of the red and itch. From the dermatoligist they can give you the cream as well as a cortizone shot. The shot will clear it up almost right away but you can't get it a lot so be careful when you choose to get one. In between times and while you are waiting for the creams and lotions to work use a cover up stick. you can find it in practially any store that sells make up.

Go to www.Skinstore.com to find products that can help. I have atopic dermatitis so I know what it's like to have scarred skin. My all time favorite thing to use is Kinerase Lotion or Cream, but it is very expensive. It costs $117 for a 2 month supply. I am currently using Skinceuticals Phyto+ Correct Gel for hyperpigmantation;it's gentle to the skin and it costs $68 for a 2-3 month supply. But you need to be patient'these products start showing results in a month. And you should be using a sunblock or high-numbered sunscreen.

This is a very important and useful report especially for yourself and your precious family. I used to have a serious allergic symptoms but after I switched those household toxic products to safe, non-toxic products all the symptoms (respiraotry allergy, skin problems...) were gone away forever. Taking a reference to this report if you switch your toxic products to safe products not having those toxic chemical ingredients it will help you and your family health real big time! Please do not think that would be a too much work for you to check all the ingredients! That's for you and your family. Even just switching a laundry detergent can affect your health considerably. (Actually I have a few people who survived from cancer by not using those chemical products for their house work, laundry, cleaning, dish washing... anymore, seriously) So if you want you can download the report free without putting in any of your personal information, here:

eldnooner

I have a cat that every summer gets a skin allergy that raises little bumps that he scratches all the time.?
Your cat (like mine) has allergies. It's best to take him to the vet now to make sure it is allergies. There are a variety of things they can give you to help his itching. This isn't going to go away, unfortunately, and may get worse. My cat has had allergies since she was about 1 1/2 years old. She scratches her ears and neck and occasionally gets a secondary infection from the scratching. Keep an eye on him and take him to the doc pronto!!
Reply:Try moving
Reply:get allergy medice that's the only thing you can do mebe it's from the sun so take the cat to the veterian when it starts happening!
Reply:Have the vet take a look. It might be fleas.
Reply:Flea bite allergy - keep a good flea deterrent on him (Revolution is best, Advantage and Frontline work too) and if it's really bad, take him to the vet for a steroid shot. If you can't keep him inside, use Revolution on him - it protects against all the things that bite him, and heartworm, too, which is a growing problem with cats.

Best solution, however, is keep him inside and have him neutered. Then you have a healthy, happy cat that will live a lot longer!
Reply:My cat had the same thing when we moved to another town and I was told it was allergies (the hair would fall or she would tear it out). The vet gave me some drops and told me to keep her in.

The vet also told me to bath her if she gets out

Cats are very clean My cat was allergic to some form of plant that was not in the other town we were in, but if you brush it off and clean her skin by giving her a bath right away (a little baking soda helps with the itching) and not let it get into her mouth it helps a lot.

Going to a vet help a lot and it has been a few years and there might be more they can do now.
Reply:cats get allergies too, call you vet and he can give you some kitty benadyrl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:I knew a cat who was allergic to grass (of all things) that did similar things. He had severe asthma type breathing problems from it at times. He had to go to the vet for allergy shots. Have your vet look the cat over. It might even be something like the kind of product you use to clean your floors, but since it is a seasonal thing it is more likely to be fleas or grass or the like.
Reply:More than likely your cat has seasonal allergies. What you are seeing probably a staph infection. Take the kitty to the vet, who will treat symptomatically or will give you a general allergy medication. If you have the funds available, I highly reccomend an allergy test to see exactly what it is that your cat is allergic to. Then, you can decide to treat with an allergy medication tailored to the types of allergies your cat has.
Reply:That sounds like fleas. The reaction is called Flea Allergy Dermatitis and it's a reaction to the flea saliva. My new female had this, so I put both of my cats on Frontline Plus. I hear Revolution is good, but Advantage only kills adult fleas. Frontline Plus kills adult fleas, larvae, and eggs, and prevents reinfestation for up to a month.

Some people think their cats won't get fleas if they're indoor cats, so they don't believe people when they tell them the problem is from fleas. Well, even indoor cats can get fleas. They can be brought in on other animals (dogs and such), get at cats through screen doors and windows, and even come in on YOUR clothes and shoes.

It definitely sounds like FAD to me, but I'd recommend taking him to the vet to make sure it's not something else.

Do pugs hair grow back after recovering from serious skin allergy?
Try rubbing used car oil all over your pug for a few days....i tried it on a maltese poodle after being advised from a vet...it worked

Eww!!! What are these?! They're some sort of skin allergy/rash?

I'm 16 and I would get these tiny red dots all over my leg (and just my leg) every month. It's horrible! It's always unbearably itchy which makes it worse. Sometimes they get inflamed and i feel a burning sensation. Half of them are just flat... itchy red dots (no its not chicken pox) and half of them are bumpy like (kind of like a mosquitoe bite but its not) and in the middle is a tiny hole. Look for yourself.

Dermatitis ... you are getting into something like poison iv y or you have food allergies ...

Reply:sounds like chiggers..have you been in grass, woods etc...by being on your legs only you think of crawling insects etc...

possibly fleas or scabies.

could be allergic rxn to socks or detergent..but should be where rest of your clothes touch too?
Reply:It looks like poison ivy or poison oak. Have you been out in the forest? Do you have pets with fleas? I would get to a dermatologist, quickly! If it itches that badly.
Reply:I can see from the picture that you sent that it must be a contact dermatitis. This happen when any surface, like your socks, water or any allergen for that matter get in contact with your skin. In your case, your foot. The itchiness is cause by the allergic reaction. You can wash your feet daily and put dry and clean socks when needed. You may as well apply any anti itch cream like dermovate or probably you can take in some anti- histamines which you can just buy in any drug house, over the counter. :)
Reply:This looks like an allergic rash. Is it possible that your house has flea's? (maybe a pet in the past had them and the pet is no longer in the house?) Typically if a flea has an animal to bite, they don't bite humans but if the animal is removed and they are hungry... they will bite humans.

That flea thing is just a guess but it totally looks like an allergic rash. You really should go to the doctor as they can give you something to make you more comfortable and maybe they can figure out what the allergy is.
Reply:It looks like it's in your sock area - maybe you are allergic to the rubber/laytex used in the socks? There is an elastic thread they use on the ankles of socks to keep them up. You should try wearing a different brand, maybe all cotton for a month to see if it helps that go away.

Also, seeing a doctor for this would be a good idea.
Reply:go see an allergist ... if your parents don't take you, they either have crappy insurance or are clueless ...
Reply:Its hard to say what this might be . . . In order of likelihood: atopic dermatitis or allergic reaction caused by wearing something that irtitates you skin; fungal infection (Tinea or Candidiasis), or some type of herpetic infection (similar to cold sores - not the STD).

How can I get rid of my chronic skin allergy?

I am suffering from this disease almost a year long. Different vegetables (e.g. Tomatoes, cucumber, Apples etc) milk, cheese, eggs, marine fishes are causing this to me...Now my condition is getting worse.....Please help me out of this problem so that I can get my normal life back and can eat everything as before.

How can I get rid of my chronic skin allergy?
It sounds harsh, but the fastest way to clear up a food allergy is to abstain COMPLETELY from the foods you are allergic to. I developed an allergy to dairy. The doctor said I had indulged in too many dairy products for too long, and thus became allergic. I eliminated all dairy from my diet (you'd be surprised at how many good recipes there are for nondairy desserts!) for six months, then gradually reintroduced it to my diet, backing off whenever I had a recurrance of symptoms. It took a while, but it did work for me. But you should always check with your doctor before self-treating complex conditions, and some food allergies might not ever get better, so you might want to start looking for alternatives to those tastes you love so.
Reply:Tried many meds - made me sick as the allergy given salves %26amp; pills but what gave relief was oatmeal soaks You can buy soaks or make your own soaks from cereal oats Recipe probably still on box Go slow adding those foods into your diet There is always a chance it will not work Report It

Reply:see a doctor...

now there's a novel idea.......
Reply:only way to get rid of chronic allergy to avoid allergens.

see to your doctor to desensitized if possible.
Reply:An allergy is an abnormal reaction to ordinarily harmless substance or substances. These sensitizing substances, called allergens, may be inhaled, swallowed or come into contact with the skin.

Do you really HAVE to do the skin allergy test before coloring your hair?
It is just for them in case you get an allergic reaction so you cannot sue them as they told you so ! (and yes, I would do it even if you had the same brand before, they seem to constantly change the formula or different colours have different ingrediences etc)
Reply:I've never done it and my head is still attached, but it's not a bad idea. Even if you'e used that dye before, you can develop an allergy to it.
Reply:Good question!

Well I've dyed my hair about 7 or 8 times and im only 16 years old! I went from black to brown to blonde, then red, then brown etc!...and to be honest, I never did the skin allergy tests!

I mean, I know you should, but I guess I kind of knew that I wasn't going to be allergic to hair dyes, even though I always use different hair color brands!

So the answer to your question is YES, don't do what I did, because you never know, you may be allergic to a specific ingredient that one of the hair color brands have!

So don't take the risk!

Hope this helped! bye =)
Reply:I have never done the test and have never had a problem. I think it is just a safety thing for the company. If something does go wrong they told you to test it first. Kind of like the McDonald's cautions contents may be hot on their coffee cup. Just a warning

This answer is also for those answering this question that are also itching with out a rash.

The only rash like symptom you may have is whrere you have scracthed so much that you make your skin bleed.

IT IS NOT AS RARE AS PEOPLE THINK

itching during pregnancy especially in the 3rd trimester There is a risk to your baby.

Still Birth If delivered later than 37 weeks

Please visit and READ Information at

www.itchymoms.com

or

Search the web for Cholestasis of Pregnancy

Itching can be more dangerous than you think during pregnancy.

I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE...........

Not all doctors a familiar with Obstetric Cholestasis.

Go straight to your DR and ask about Cholestasis of Pregnancy.

It is to do with your liver and pregnancy hormones.

I have had this with 3 of my 4 pregnancies.

All it is, is a simple itch that will drive you crazy that is the only symptom.

Ask to have your BILE SALTS tested this is the only test that will diagnose OC,

Argue with your Dr if you have to, it is worth it.

Liver fuction tests and blood counts DO NOT diagnose OC the only can help the diagnoses in conjunction with Bile salt tests .

An itch doesn't seem much but it can be FATAL to your baby if it goes undiagnosed.

The itching can be any where I had it on my legs and arms at first.

I don't want to scare you but please realise this is very important
Reply:pls consult your doctor
Reply:This girl I know has the same symptoms and the dr's told her she had PUPP what ever that is but look that up online and see what they recommend
Reply:You need to see your doctor or midwife as itching during pregnancy can mean other things. Itching is common in normal pregnancy and is thought to be due to the liver's response to the hormones in pregnancy and a raised bilirubin level (bilirubin is a substance in bile). It may also be caused by the skin stretching over the abdomen (where the itching usually starts from). However there is a rare, but serious, condition called obstetric cholestasis which may occur in pregnancy, which also leads to itching. This itching originates in other parts of the body, such as the hands, arms, legs and the soles of the feet, and is often worse at night. Because obstetric cholestasis can have potentially serious consequences for the unborn baby, it is important to exclude this as the cause of any itching. Obstetric cholestasis is detected by two blood tests. One is a liver function test and the other is a serum bile acid test. The second of these is the most sensitive. If the results are negative but the itching persists, the tests are usually repeated a week or two later. The treatment for the condition involves giving drugs that will reduce the build-up of bile salts and help to relieve the itching. The most common drugs used are ursodeoxycholic acid, which aids bile flow and therefore decreases the amount of bile salts in the blood, and Dexamethasone, which is a steroid that is sometimes used to mature a baby's lungs if a premature birth is anticipated, and which has also been found to help relieve the itching by suppressing the hormones which contribute to cholestasis. Vitamin K may be given to prevent excessive blood loss at the time of birth. If it is just normal itching then maybe calomile lotion or a gentle moisturiser like E45 cream.
Reply:i feel so sorry for you my daughter has had a rash since 20 weeks and she has been to the doctors and there is nothing they can do for it because its hormonal but she had to have a blood test done to be sure x

What is the best medicine for the skin allergy and falling hair of my dog?
proper food recommended from the vet and a general antihistimine
Reply:You need to go the the vet, or at least call him, and see what he says you should do.
Reply:sounds like mange
Reply:What kind of dog and how big? I have had vets tell me to use Benadryl for allergies so this is why I ask. If the dog is a small one you may want to use childrens benadryl. You will want to bathe your dog in warm water with a cup of baking soda added. I would do this in a bath tub. The baking soda will soothe the itch. And will help the skin heal faster. As for the falling hair, my grandpa told me of a homemade salve you can mix up with kitchen products. Just mix shortening with flour and add this to the bald spots. This will moisten the skin and help the hair grow back. Works great on ferrets too.
Reply:My cat had very sensitive skin and would lose hair and get scabs, etc. He would have to get coritzone shots but I'm not sure what that exactly did for him.

You can start by going to a pet supermarket and getting a good shampoo for his skin type and maybe some kind of skin conditioner and see how that works. He may need to see a vet.
Reply:First , change the dogs diet NO FISH- get it on a lamb%26amp; rice diet- Skin allergy can be cured in many ways, you can buy an antibiotic ointment( your vet will suggest that) or do a cure that has helped many dogs! Its an old one used for ages and I was lucky to be given it by someone's grandmother!

Yes it will be messy but then who cares if it cures right?

2 tablespoons of olive oil, mixed with 2 tablespoons of the root spice called turmeric. make a paste and smear it on the allergy

If the dog licks it its Ok but try to keep it off and keep the pooch away from your carpets and areas as the yellow color can be real problem to remove. You can also mix 1/4 teaspoon of this yellow spice with its milk or food.

Works like a miracle

This spice can be bought at most Asian ,East indian shops. Use an anti-bacterial shampoo
Reply:My friends dog had really bad skin allergies. The Vet told her to give it a strick diet of vegetables , cooked red meat %26amp; rice.

Now she's fine. And she can eat normal dog food .
Reply:they make oatmeal bath stuff for dogs, get some and then check into getting some dog food that is for sensitive skin...he (or she) will feel alot better..
Reply:I sounds more like an allergy to its dog food. I have a page on my website about food allergies. Check it out, it might help.

http://www.standardpoodlesusa.com/food-a...
Reply:First have her seen by the vet to make sure it is allergies. Thyroid problems and other medical conditions can make a dog lose hair.

Once its been determined that is in fact allergies you can either have allergy testing done to determine what she is allergic to, and remove the offender. Or you can work on process of elimination.

Start with her food. Poor quality foods containing corn and wheat can cause allergies. So switch to a higher quality food without these ingredients. Remember its going to take about 6-8 weeks to see results from a food change.

She can be allergic to other things as well, pollen, grass, cleaners, your carpet etc. The best way to treat allergies is to get rid of the offenders. If that is not possible talk to your vet about medication for times when the offenders can't be avoided.

My dog was prescribed Cephalexin for a skin allergy.?

After taking this med for 5 days I noticed her getting weaker and not eating. By the 8th day she couldn't get up off the floor and walk. Then she started breathing hard and started wheezing. I had to carry her outside to go to the bathroom. I suspected she was having an allergic reaction to the meds. The vet didn't think too much about it when I questioned him. I told him I took her off the Cephalexin. She seemed to get a little better. She could walk but was very shakey. The vet then prescribed Amoxicillin. Now after the third pill her symptoms are starting to come back. Now I guess she is allergic to this as well. Has anyone experienced this with their dog? If the meds are stopped will she regain her health? That is my concern. I just want her to start eating and walking again. She is 12 years old but up until this happened she was fine.

My dog was prescribed Cephalexin for a skin allergy.?
Cephalexin and Amoxicillin are antibiotics. But I would take her off of them and go get a 2nd opinion from another veterinarian just the same. What you describe is really odd symptioms to have with skin conditions and allergies and suggestions other complications and is worth a second look by another vet.
Reply:Both are derivatives of penicillin. She could very well be allergic to them. I would consider taking her to another vet. Those are not good symptoms at all!
Reply:Mine just started on Amoxicillin today for an infection where she got spayed 2 weeks ago. She hasn't shown any signs of slowing down yet but I am going to keep my eyes open for it. ALso she is 12.8 pounds and getting 125 mg . Maybe your dog is getting too large of a dose. Maybe try another vet...even just call and talk to another vet and see what they say.

What is the best medicine for my skin allergy?

Benadryl Cream or spray. You don't need to make yourself sleepy by taking pills for something that is a topical allergy.

What is the best medicine for my skin allergy?
Benadryl
Reply:Melody: Any of the oral antihistimines will work. However, if you prefer something topical, try Caladryl. It is a mixture of calamine lotion and Benadryl (ok so you will look a little pink). The calamine lotion will dry out any hives and the Benadryl will stop the itching. If you just want to stop the itching, don't laugh but there is a great product for pets with allergies called Petaseptic Lotion. When pets have allergies, it shows up in their skin. This stuff heals the skin and stops the itch. Don't laugh, but I keep a bottle under my sink for bug bites and rashes. This stuff is so good at stopping itches, that it will even stop the itch from chiggers (and that is a mean itch).

Also, if you want a good soothing lotion for sensitive skin, then try the Vanicream. I will put links for both. I have used both and they are great. But the real question you need to be asking is "What causes me to have an allergic reaction on my skin?"
Reply:When you say skin allergy, what are you referring to? Eczema?

Drug medications can provide instant reliefs but you should also examine natural ways of prevention and treatment. Over reliance on drugs have their side effects.

How can i get rid from my skin allergy??????
It all depends on what is worng with your skin. Is it burning, itching, or cracking? I would recommend trying Jerkens ultra healing lotion first. If your skin is super dry or cracking, it should fix it. If your skin is itching or burning, I would recommend you see your doctor to find out exactly what you are allergic to or use goldbonds medicated lotion.

What's the best medicine for skin allergy?
allergies are caused by a lot of things. but inside the body, the inflammatory reaction is caused by the increase of histamine. allergies are usually relieved by anti-histamines. but take note, most anti-histamines can cause drowsiness.
Reply:pour coca-cola on it, dang that stuff works for everything
Reply:I stuggled for years with dermatitis which is skins reaction to external causes i.e. soap, perfume, detergents, plants, cleaners(even know one person who gets a reaction to wallpaper paste!)Best approach is to know what causes a reacton then avoid it or find alternative hypo-allergenic products.if it's not possible to avoid then before you have to have contact with it take a low dose antihistamine, there are plenty of them on the market, your pharmacist will tell which ones don't make you drowsy. If you come into contact with the substance and know a reaction will be coming on then take the antihistamine straight away and get some aqueous cream on the area affected to help lessen the severity of any attack and quicken healing, again your pharmacist will tell you the best cream for your needs i.e. for face, body, hands, scalp etc.

What is the best cure for skin allergy?

these are red spots (usualy perfect circle), dry and they peel. They are mostly active during cold and dry season and when they disappear they leave nasty dark marks that would be there for years. Most of them concentrate on the upper legs and buttocks area.

What is the best cure for skin allergy?
if it is an allergy that is causing these bumps then the only way to "cure" it is to avaoid contact with whatever you are allergic to. an allergist can perform skin testing to determine what is causing it and tell you what to avoid.

My mini schnauzer has a skin allergy vet gave two week course of piriton ha still itching?
What food are you feeding him?

Most commercial dog food brands such as Pedigee, Purina, Science Diet Iams ect. are very low quality foods with poor ingredients not suited for a dogs nutritional needs.

They contain corn which is a grain dogs can not digest properly and is the cause of many allergies. Not only does it have corn in it but it also is the main ingredient in the food and appears multiple times. The main ingredient in a dog food should be meat. Not a meal nor a by product.

By products are also a main ingredient in this food. By products are unfortunately very unhealthy and consist of little nutritional value. They are the leftovers of the leftovers and can be anything from feathers to hooves to horns.

The rest of the food in comprised of cheap low quality fillers that most dogs will have problems with.

Dogs also can develop allergies after being fed the same low quality food for an extended amount of time. They are scavengers by nature and not made to eat the same food day in and day out with little to no variety. Neither for that matter are humans.

Don't ever go with a prescription diet. Vets may know a lot but almost all know nothing about nutrition. Do not take your vets word on it. Do your own research and learn to read an ingredient list.

You should find a higher quality food to give to your dog. Your best bet for allergies would be a grain free food (which all dogs should be give). While a higher quality food is more expensive you will feed less and pay less in vet bills and medical problems.

Raw would be your best choice though for helping allergies and keeping your dog healthy. Do some research on raw food and dog nutrition in general so you will be able to spot a good dog food on site. It will also give you a better understanding of why it is healthy

Almost none of this food is going to be available in chain petstores such as Petco or Petsmart. You will find them at smaller independent feed stores, petstores, or animal supply stores. Go to their websites and they will have something that says "where to buy" from there you will be able to find many stores near you that sell it.

Whatever you choose I would make sure you keep some variety in your dogs food. Mix different foods together.

Supplement Raw pellets in or even cooked meats, raw veggies and fruits. Remember table scraps are not bad, they tend to be healthier than what’s in your dogs pet food.

Feed a piece of that chicken you are having for dinner, give him a carrot from your plate, he will be much better off for it.

Just keep in mind that when you do that take that into account for his overall calorie intake for the day.

Good luck and I hope this helps
Reply:It's possible that your dog has food allergies. If you can afford to have him tested, test for allergy to food dyes and preservatives. If you can't afford testing try changing the food to ones with no artificial flavors or coloring or preservatives.
Reply:There's a really good brand of dog food- it's not medicated, called Avoderm. I suggest it to anyone, especially for dogs with skin irritation. It makes the skin and coat so much healthier, your dog should glow in the dark. It has oatmeal and avocado skins and it is very healthy in general (compared to grocery brands) so you can keep using it even after his skin heals. You can usually find it in the premium dog food aisle at Petsmart.

(Just don't forget whenever you switch to a new food to do it gradually, over at least a week so it won't upset their tummies)

My Golden Retriever has a skin allergy. Possibly food related. Benedryl has been suggested. Any experience?

I've changed his food to single-ingredient, vet. food, and that helps, but is Sooo expensive. If I do use benedryl, what should the dose be? He's about 95 pounds.

My Golden Retriever has a skin allergy. Possibly food related. Benedryl has been suggested. Any experience?
have you tried a premium food such as Canidae or Inova? Most cheap foods contain corn, soy, and other not so great ingredients.Corn and soy are two good and easy places to start.Find a food thats corn and soy free, and see if that helps. While not the only allergie causing foods, they are 2 of the upper tier culprits. If it keeps dragging on it may be best to have the vet test your dog,and see what is causing the alergic reaction. It could be anything.I know someone with a Lab,that eats Lamb based food, because chicken and beef both caused problems.
Reply:I would ask your vet. They should be able to tell you the exact dose to give your dog. Better to be on the safe side I think ;)
Reply:If your dog does indeed have a food allergy. All Benadryl can do is to minimize the itching that may occur with a allergy but it won't cure the allergy. And In some cases that may not be enough to stop the itching. The best thing to do is to find out what are causing the allergies (what type of food etc.) And have that addressed. He still will have hairloss an irritation even if on the benadryl.
Reply:Dose would depend on size and weight. Check with your vet for the proper dose for your dog.

Our vet recommended Benedryl for our allergic puppy, but even half the amount makes her very sleepy (one of the side effects). We use it very rarely, only when there is no other way to relieve the scratching. Remember, the Benedryl doesn't cure anything, it just a temporary relief of the symptoms. You should continue to pursue other, more permanent remedies for your dog's allergy.

If the food you are using is too expensive, check out other brands - canine allergies are very common and there are a lot of options on the market.

Do a google or yahoo search on 'canine allergies' for more information, and good luck!

Note - when trying new food or other changes for the allergy, keep the dog off benedryl or you won't be able to tell if the changes are working or not!
Reply:My suggestion. Yes the Benedryll will work, BUT why medicate all the time when there is no too.

Rather than feed your dog the vet diet. Make your own diet. A lot of people think I'm nuts when I say this, and believe me I thought the same thing when I heard about it. Raw diets. Awesome. I've switched my dogs over to a raw diet, and I will NEVER go back to a commercial dog food again. The benefits are tremendous.

What I would recommend is to keep your dog on the vet diet for now, while you do research on a raw diet, and then switch to that. It is a little scary at first, but once see the results and get used to it, you'll be amazed.

Here is a portion of my dog food article that talks a bit about raw diets and has links to get you started with research.

There is another diet option other than dog food. Some people choose to feed a raw diet. This involves feeding the dog raw meaty bones and organ meat. However it is not as simple as throwing a couple chicken bones in a bowl everyday. If you wish to feed this type of diet, do lots and lots of research first. Switching to this diet without knowing what your doing can lead to nutritional problems for your dog. I'll give you some links as a starting point in research if you are interested in this type of diet.

What's Really In Pet Food

http://www.api4animals.org/79.htm
Reply:Ask you vet about a home-made diet. Ours had recipes for good foods that are less likely to cause allergies. Be sure to avoid treats that have corn and wheat unless you have tested your golden retriever for food allergies. Other things to avoid are soy and yeast.

We use Benadryl for itchiness in one of our goldens. It is low in side effects, except for drowsiness, available in generic, and relatively inexpensive.

What are the reasons for skin allergy?

there are many reasons. certain people are more sensitive to certain things. its only because of their backround really. some people react to certain foods badly and some react badly to dust in the air. it all depends on your genetic make up.

What are the reasons for skin allergy?
Can be everything... dust, laundry soap, body lotion, sun, shampoo...... more and more.

If you have a allergy go to doctor and let make some test and they can find out from what you get allergy.

Good luck...
