Your cat (like mine) has allergies. It's best to take him to the vet now to make sure it is allergies. There are a variety of things they can give you to help his itching. This isn't going to go away, unfortunately, and may get worse. My cat has had allergies since she was about 1 1/2 years old. She scratches her ears and neck and occasionally gets a secondary infection from the scratching. Keep an eye on him and take him to the doc pronto!!

Reply:Flea bite allergy - keep a good flea deterrent on him (Revolution is best, Advantage and Frontline work too) and if it's really bad, take him to the vet for a steroid shot. If you can't keep him inside, use Revolution on him - it protects against all the things that bite him, and heartworm, too, which is a growing problem with cats.


Best solution, however, is keep him inside and have him neutered. Then you have a healthy, happy cat that will live a lot longer!
Reply:My cat had the same thing when we moved to another town and I was told it was allergies (the hair would fall or she would tear it out). The vet gave me some drops and told me to keep her in.





The vet also told me to bath her if she gets out


Cats are very clean My cat was allergic to some form of plant that was not in the other town we were in, but if you brush it off and clean her skin by giving her a bath right away (a little baking soda helps with the itching) and not let it get into her mouth it helps a lot.





Going to a vet help a lot and it has been a few years and there might be more they can do now.

Reply:I knew a cat who was allergic to grass (of all things) that did similar things. He had severe asthma type breathing problems from it at times. He had to go to the vet for allergy shots. Have your vet look the cat over. It might even be something like the kind of product you use to clean your floors, but since it is a seasonal thing it is more likely to be fleas or grass or the like.
Reply:More than likely your cat has seasonal allergies. What you are seeing probably a staph infection. Take the kitty to the vet, who will treat symptomatically or will give you a general allergy medication. If you have the funds available, I highly reccomend an allergy test to see exactly what it is that your cat is allergic to. Then, you can decide to treat with an allergy medication tailored to the types of allergies your cat has.
Reply:That sounds like fleas. The reaction is called Flea Allergy Dermatitis and it's a reaction to the flea saliva. My new female had this, so I put both of my cats on Frontline Plus. I hear Revolution is good, but Advantage only kills adult fleas. Frontline Plus kills adult fleas, larvae, and eggs, and prevents reinfestation for up to a month.





Some people think their cats won't get fleas if they're indoor cats, so they don't believe people when they tell them the problem is from fleas. Well, even indoor cats can get fleas. They can be brought in on other animals (dogs and such), get at cats through screen doors and windows, and even come in on YOUR clothes and shoes.





It definitely sounds like FAD to me, but I'd recommend taking him to the vet to make sure it's not something else.
