piriton finished now.i bathing him with virbac also got tea tree mist for irritation not worked either he been checked for fleas too none.It a wee shame watching him any advice would be grateful.

What food are you feeding him?





Most commercial dog food brands such as Pedigee, Purina, Science Diet Iams ect. are very low quality foods with poor ingredients not suited for a dogs nutritional needs.





They contain corn which is a grain dogs can not digest properly and is the cause of many allergies. Not only does it have corn in it but it also is the main ingredient in the food and appears multiple times. The main ingredient in a dog food should be meat. Not a meal nor a by product.





By products are also a main ingredient in this food. By products are unfortunately very unhealthy and consist of little nutritional value. They are the leftovers of the leftovers and can be anything from feathers to hooves to horns.





The rest of the food in comprised of cheap low quality fillers that most dogs will have problems with.





Dogs also can develop allergies after being fed the same low quality food for an extended amount of time. They are scavengers by nature and not made to eat the same food day in and day out with little to no variety. Neither for that matter are humans.





Don't ever go with a prescription diet. Vets may know a lot but almost all know nothing about nutrition. Do not take your vets word on it. Do your own research and learn to read an ingredient list.





You should find a higher quality food to give to your dog. Your best bet for allergies would be a grain free food (which all dogs should be give). While a higher quality food is more expensive you will feed less and pay less in vet bills and medical problems.

Raw would be your best choice though for helping allergies and keeping your dog healthy. Do some research on raw food and dog nutrition in general so you will be able to spot a good dog food on site. It will also give you a better understanding of why it is healthy





Almost none of this food is going to be available in chain petstores such as Petco or Petsmart. You will find them at smaller independent feed stores, petstores, or animal supply stores. Go to their websites and they will have something that says "where to buy" from there you will be able to find many stores near you that sell it.





Whatever you choose I would make sure you keep some variety in your dogs food. Mix different foods together.


Supplement Raw pellets in or even cooked meats, raw veggies and fruits. Remember table scraps are not bad, they tend to be healthier than what’s in your dogs pet food.


Feed a piece of that chicken you are having for dinner, give him a carrot from your plate, he will be much better off for it.


Just keep in mind that when you do that take that into account for his overall calorie intake for the day.

Reply:It's possible that your dog has food allergies. If you can afford to have him tested, test for allergy to food dyes and preservatives. If you can't afford testing try changing the food to ones with no artificial flavors or coloring or preservatives.
Reply:There's a really good brand of dog food- it's not medicated, called Avoderm. I suggest it to anyone, especially for dogs with skin irritation. It makes the skin and coat so much healthier, your dog should glow in the dark. It has oatmeal and avocado skins and it is very healthy in general (compared to grocery brands) so you can keep using it even after his skin heals. You can usually find it in the premium dog food aisle at Petsmart.


(Just don't forget whenever you switch to a new food to do it gradually, over at least a week so it won't upset their tummies)
