Skin allergy: my cousin has this scaly, lumpy, red skin in her crouch (singit) and it has dark skin around it?

My cousin (girl) showed me and my sister her crouch because we kept on asking her to wear a bathing suit like we all do when going for a swim. Instead, she always uses a short shorts and a t-shirt. She explained to us why and we saw these scaly, lumpy, reddish marks (circles and some are lines) and dark skin around it. She said if it dries out, it peels and leaves a reddish, lumpy, wet marks. I thought at first, maybe it's because of the underwears she's using, thought maybe they're too tight because she's a huge girl. But then, my sister noticed that there were black spots in between her thighs. What do you think is it?

Skin allergy: my cousin has this scaly, lumpy, red skin in her crouch (singit) and it has dark skin around it?
She could have a fungus or other type of infection. Some larger sized people get dark skin on the inner thighs. She really needs to see a dermatologist. This type of problem could lead to cellulitis, an infection of the layers of the skin. Then it becomes swollen, fiery, and you have high fever, nausea, pain. Then it could enter the bloodstream if untreated. This could also lead to abscess, a pus pocket. it could require surgical treatment, and infection could also go into the bloodstream. Anything that keeps coming back needs to be medically treated.
Reply:Hmmm...maybe it is dry skin...she needs to see a dermatologist :)
Reply:is it a tumor? lol
Reply:i presume she is fat, and don't work out as much?

there is somepart of out body that need muscle movement to move the fluid inside....

Is it possible to have a skin irritation/allergy from down feathers?

I developed a skin irritation on the side of my nose, and on my forehead and on my chest that looked a little bit like acne but it wasnt, it just showed up like scabs. Like it would get itchy, and i would itch it and then they would turn into little red spots and scabs.

People said that i am getting an allergie from the feathers in my down feather baby phat coat, cuz they keep coming out and they get on my clothes and stuff. I was wondering if its possible to get a rash or an allergy or irritation from feathers?

Otherwise, any ideas about what the irritation could be? I have been drinking tea and washing the areas every day, and they seem to be clearing up a little bit. Please help.

Is it possible to have a skin irritation/allergy from down feathers?
simple answer is yes you can develop allergy to feathers skin or lung ,shortness of breath like asthma have an allergy test done if possible and stop wearing coat
Reply:Yes
Reply:Yes, most definitely. I can not even use a one because of the feathers. I am allergic to them and end up with rashes, shortness of breath, and end up using my fast acting inhaler. Best advice if your health is changing around something, get rid of it. Because your body is telling you something. Listen to it, for your body knows what is best for you.

Serious skin problem+allergy??

my skin is very weak, when it is injured,it take twice or thrice the time longer than normal people to heal.my skin also get very itchy suddenly sometime(i think it is on hot weather).my chest and neck will get very itchy.

Another problem is my allergy problem.after i drink alcohol, the next day my body will be filled with many big white spot and my hand will turn red.second day after that it will turn very itchy for few day.

P/S: I have the allergy on drinking vodka, like Barcadi and RUM

,no problem with red wine and beer.

Very very sorry for the long question, answer is greatly appreciated.

Serious skin problem+allergy??
You could have an allergy do deodorants and also alcohol based fragrance. But you also might think about a trip to the doctor to see just why it take a long time for your skin to heal.

Ear problem- skin problem, allergy, or other?

For the last few months, my ears have been dry and the skin on the outer ear (the part I can see anyway) looks almost like it's shedding. I have also had on and off earwax buildup which I used hydrogen peroxide to get rid of, which fixed most of the wax problem. However, the flaky, hurting skin on the ear is still there. Sometimes it hurts when I pull on my earlobes, and most of the time they are very sensitive to touch.

I heard from a friend it might be allergies, so I started taking Benedril (sp?) and it seems to be more of a hit-and-miss, even though I've been taking it daily. At first the allergy meds helped, but after about a week, it went back to being as bad as it was. Is this a skin problem, or am I just using the wrong form of medicine (hydrogen peroxide in the ear and Benedril) to fix the allergy problem? Maybe I got "immune" to the drug after using it for a while?

Thanks,

Ben

Ear problem- skin problem, allergy, or other?
Stop the peroxide and Benadryl.

Get some hydrocortisone (over the counter) ointment.

Apply it to the affected areas twice a day for 3 days.

Then leave your ears alone.

Has your baby had the allergy skin test?

my baby's pediatrician told me that my baby can have an allergy skin test, it would be a scratch in the skin. does it hurt more than shots? does it keep hurting after?

my son might have lactose and rice allergies so i am concerned.

thanks

Has your baby had the allergy skin test?
My son had a blood test to determine that he had milk and egg allergies and 6 months later he had the skin test done to see if he was still allergic. He was about 18 months old for that test and it didn't even bother him. He just ran around the room until the time was up to read the results. It doesn't hurt, it's just a tiny pinch...less than a shot. They might get itchy but you can't let them scratch at it. Other than that, it's harmless.
Reply:it depends onhow old your baby is. Most allergists won't do the tests until your child is at least 4yrs of age because their immune system isn't completely developed. it doesn't hurt them it's very itchy because they give the kids a drop of histimine in one of the scratches. It does not hurt after only the scratch with the histimine will continue to itch.
Reply:It really seems to be just scratches. My baby did cry pretty hard, but I think he was just upset at being held still. They marked his back with a marker first and he cried hard even during that, so it was hard to tell if he was crying out of pain or if he was scared. I think he was more scared than in pain. Good luck, you need to do it to get your baby healthy. All they tested mine for was dust and mold and they both came back positive :(
Reply:I had this done myself as a child. It was very painful, I have to say. But, I don't think you should let that deter you from going ahead with the test. It's the most accurate way of finding out what his exact allergies are. It will save you a lot of heartache in the long run if you just get the test done.
Reply:they can take blood to for this test my little girl had but done on here talk to the baby dr

Allergy skin prick test - any chance of contamination?

I had an allergy skin prick test done, and because I was nervous, I didn't ask alot of questions, but should have. I saw they had about 100 vials of stuff, and marked the ones I was getting tested for with yellow caps. They used some kind of lancet or whatever to "prick" my back. So then I started wondering, do they reuse lancets? Do they reuse extracts or those little bottles among patients? Is there a risk of catching some kind of disease? Thanks.

Allergy skin prick test - any chance of contamination?
i'm pretty sure anything that penetrates skin can not be used again by a medical professional. did you go to a real doctor? if so i wouldn't worry about it.
Reply:Of course they don't reuse lancets unless you went to some witch doctor in a 3rd world country. The procedures prevent cross-contamination occurring between patients.

There is always a risk of catching some kind of disease. With an allergy test the risk of catching a disease is lower than the risk if you went home and scratched you skin lightly with a safety pin.

Dog itch problem. Skin allergy. Help!?

My Bassett mix has skin allergies. The vet originally put her on a medicine that helped her stop itching herself raw, but it ran out and he wouldn't refill it. He guessed she was allergic to her shampoo (we switched to an Oatmeal one), her food, and the grass outside. She is so raw and irritated now, that her paws are bleeding and her whole bald underside looks sunburnt. We have been bathing her often, because the dirtier she gets, the worse she seems to be, but on the other hand, I washed her today and she seems worse.

Ok, my question. We have been giving her benadryl off and on on our vet's suggestion. Can we make that a daily dose? If so, how much for a 45 lb dog? twice daily? will this help her get through the summer?

I think it is the grass and pollen, because she rarely has problems in the winter, at least not like this.

Please help! Suggestions about shampoo brands, food brands, lotions? Anything is welcome.

Dog itch problem. Skin allergy. Help!?
It really sounds like topical allergic dermatitis, commonly cause by contact with an allergen.

While it is possible that she has developed a new Allergy to grass and pollen, its also possible that she is reacting to something that has changed in the house. are you using any new detergents, Carpet cleaners etc.

If it were diet, it would be all over her whole body. Since it is on her feet and belly it is something that she is touching.

Try to keep her inside as much as possible. Bathing her with any type of soap can dry out her skin and exacerbate the problem. For relief, try making a paste out of baking soda and water. Apply the paste while she is in the tub and let her relax in there for a while. Then rinse it off without soap.

Try to get an appointment with a different vet who will take you seriously.
Reply:eeewww!!!
Reply:Probably the best thing to use right now, with the itching would be to bath her in baking soda. at least it will help with the itch
Reply:A fellow I know is taking his dog to the vet tomorrow for the same problem, and vet already told him he would give the dog a shot. I think he said cortisone.

You might think of calling another vet and see what someone else tells you.
Reply:Have you thought about having a allergy test done on your dog? My vet did one on my dog called the Liquid Gold Allergy Test, its a blood test that cost me an arm and a leg but it was well worth it! We found out that my dog was allergic to corn. We switched my dogs food to one that was potato based and VOILA! no more itchy skin.

Also, they make Omega 3 fatty acid capsules for dogs called allerg G3 or 3v Caps ( both are different companies that make essentially the same thing) that really help with the dogs skin and coat so it wont get so irritated when the dogs become itchy. My dog takes these as well. I dont know if you can buy them over the counter, I purchase them from vet.

finally, I have never heard of a vet who will not refill a perscription that is working. I hope he or she had a valid reason. If not, then it is time to switch to another doctor.

goodluck with the allergies
Reply:I use tea to sooth my dogs itch, just brew a cup let it cool and dab it on,I would also try another vet, they might have some new ideas.I had a cat that began loosing her hair once ,they had no idea why.it was the carpet,we pulled it up put in new and she was fine.good luck.
Reply:You mentioned that your vet thinks she is allergic to her food. I'm not trying to be rude by saying this, but if you really want to fix this problem, you'll need to make a change ASAP...if you're feeding your dog a commercial pet food from your grocery store or Wal-Mart, you'll need to get her off that stuff, it's probably the biggest contributor to her allergy problems.

I'd ask the vet to do allergy testing to determine exactly what the allergens are...they're not very expensive, my vet charges $150.

As far as foods: for prepared foods, you may want to try something like a fish and potato food or a venison based food...it causes a lot less allergic reactions. Many dogs are allergic to various grains or vegetables (found in many common dog foods, especially the cheap ones), and it's not uncommon for dogs to have allergies to beef or chicken.

If it were my dog, I would contact a holistic vet, who can give you guidance about a raw diet for dogs with allergies...you'll be making your dog's food yourself, and can SLOWLY introduce foods into her diet.

Here are a few books discussing allergies: "Pet Allergies", by Alfred Plechner and "Shock to the System: The Facts About Animal Vaccination, Pet Food And How to Keep Your Pets Healthy", by Catherine M. O'Driscoll ...I'd suggest checking them out, as well, for more information on caring for your dog.

A final thought: you could ask your vet to prescribe cyclosporin for your dog...I would only recommend it VERY short term, until you are able to put together a plan for your dog's new diet...it can cause serious problems with long term use, but could help keep her comfortable until you can start a new program for your dog.

Did any one heared about the "intramuscular injection by own blood" as a treatment of skin Allergy?

i am asking about if u surprised that ur doctor took some blood from ur arm and directly inject it -intramuscularly- into ur butt muscle, and as a result the severe skin Allergy symptoms were disappeared !!! Is that exists in any of the medical references ??? and how it works ??

Did any one heared about the "intramuscular injection by own blood" as a treatment of skin Allergy?
That is because of the spread out of blood.

Can anyone tell me if they know what kind of skin allergy i have?

I just recently got a skin allergy I believe it is and I been to the doctor but they just gave me some little purple pills. I took them and it went away but as soon as I ran out it came back. I just stop getting refills and for a while I was always itchy not only in one spot but all over. Depending how I scratch that determines how big the bump is and it gets red. I need to know if it`s curable or am I going to have it for the rest of my life. Also what is causing it and the name of this allergy if it even is an allergy. No I am not allergic to any type of food I get it usually when I sweat.

Can anyone tell me if they know what kind of skin allergy i have?
You need to call your doc and find out what he felt the problem was aka what was his diagnosis. If he felt it was an allergy then see an allergist and get tested to find out what you are allergic to. You really need to get this info from the doc though.
Reply:That was a question for the doctor before you left his office
Reply:i was always coming out in itchy spots.the doc said i had dry skin but even when a moisturised a lot the spots were still there, i believe mine is through tomatoes (lots of acid in them) i tested myself by not eating them and then eating them. i went back to doc to tell him this and he gave me an antihistimene tablet (one a day) its done the trick, ask your doc for some as it may help.

Why do you think my dog has a skin allergy?is it because of the food, shelter, or smthing...Ü?

i am tired of curing my dog's skin..everyday..i put medicine..anti allergy..etc. but..for me..nothing is happening..is it also because of he is changing his skin(because he is only 5 months old)..thanks..

Why do you think my dog has a skin allergy?is it because of the food, shelter, or smthing...Ü?
feed your dog an all natural diet such as INNOVA. about $40 per 33pounds. Dogs are sometimes allergic to that crap they make cheap dog food out of. You will save money in the long run on medicine and vet bills, trust me, we learned the hard way!
Reply:shelter
Reply:Are you feeding a lamb and Rice formula puppy food? Skin allergies can be from grasses, carpet cleaners, or fleas(just one bite) But the most common skin allergies are food related. If you are not currently feeding lamb and rice, check at your local pet supply and ask for a hypo-allergenic puppy kibble.

Solid Gold makes a great one, as do many other premium brands. the culprits are usually corn, wheat, soy, beet pulp, preservatives, and food coloring. The very best kibbles are made with human grade ingredients. they are well worth the cost, as they produce a much healthier pet.
Reply:if you do bathe your dog, try to use gentle soap and be sure that you do rinse it all off or it can cause itching %26amp; redness.

Good Luck!
Reply:smthing
Reply:Your dog is changing his skin? Is it part reptile?
Reply:take him to a vet they will help. it could be parvo or it could be allergies. my dog is aqllergic to red dye. its a simple test and it doesnt hurt the dog.
Reply:i have a yellow lab that has skin allergies. he has to go to my vet about 2-3 times a year to get a shot. (he stays with my parents) my parents use this special shampoo to help keep his skin moisten. even giving your dog a bath once a week will drain the oil from it's skin causing the dog to scratch and have hot spots. my yellow lab takes these big yellow pills (2 gel cap twice a day) to help build up his immune system. every now and then the vet gives him some other medicine for his allergies. maybe watch his diet, because they can be allergic to certain foods. maybe go under search on the internet for skin allergies and see if you can find more out there.

*****they're are a lot of things that can cause allergies or even skin problems to dogs. just like humans. i would talk to my vet to see about having an allergy test taken or try to narrow it down. the vet would have more answers.
Reply:There ae many possibilities of why your dog has skin problems, one depends on where you live. If you live where it is cold and your dog stays inside, maybe the heater is drying his skin out. maybe he has allergies to food or pollen. If he is only 5 months be careful what you try, take him to a groomer they might have some ideas for you.

I found a shampoo called Milk Bath that works really good on my dog. He has "dandruff" really bad, and this stuff worked wonders, plus it smells good.
Reply:It could be anything in its food, my old dog had awful skin problems, all because it was allergic to Wheat, so we had to change its whole deit around, it could be something like that
Reply:yo, bro. you gotta go to some dog doctors.
Reply:Try a bath then medican.
Reply:Here are a few pointers that you can do:

a) Try changing ur dog food to holistic rice and lamb. It would help. Also try to add in fish oil (either liquid or tablet). It will improve the layers in the skin.

b) Try to clean the place he sleeps daily and put a clear big plastic sheet on the place where he sleeps. This will reduce skin irratation.

c) Try to use medicated shampoo for dogs. There's a brand call malasab(i think it's the correct name) It's proven effective to skin problem.

If all the above is not working for your dog, then you must go to the vet. The vet will give ur dog injection and medication. But it's not cheap.
Reply:my grandmother's dog is going through the same thing and this has worked for her:

bathe the dog with head %26amp; shoulders shampoo and give the dog little scraps of egg. so if you eat eggs for breakfast, just give a little bit to the dog. eggs really help the condition of the dog's coat and skin.
Reply:my dog has a skin allergy as well and he lost some of his hair. i started putting skin so soft bath oil from avon in his water when i give him a bath and all his hair is back. I hope i helped.
Reply:most common cause of skin allergies is food. make sure ur feeling him a high quality food with no grains or by-products. a well known good food is Natural Balance. They specialize in making allergy dog foods. they have a line of kibble, treats and sausages for dogs

Golden Retriever's losing hair with skin allergy?

Our 4 yr. old Golden retriever is losing his hair, probably because of his skin allergy. He is on Prednisone, but it doesn't seem to be working 100 percent. The poor thing is almost bald on his belly and it just isn't getting better. Can someone shead light on an easy cure for the poor guy? He has gone to the vet many times for shots to, but I was wondering if there was anything else to do.

Golden Retriever's losing hair with skin allergy?
What food is he on?

Sometimes diet has a lot to do with allergies. Did your vet put him on z/d prescription food? At our clinic we will prescribe Pred along with z/d which is a low-allergen food. When the Pred is done we will have the owners continue to feed z/d food for a certain period of time to see if the allergens come back. If not, we know it is food related and will either have the dog stay on z/d food or recommend different holistic food choices (Canidae is a great choice).

These Goldens and their skin!! I tell ya! :) When did you start the Pred? What is your taper? Typically it is anywhere from 3 to 10 days, depending upon to severity of the skin issue. Finish the Pred completely and see if it clears. Pred is one of those meds that needs to be finished to the very end for the best results.

Hi Golden!!!

Alright... unfortunately Purina is not a qualiy food. Your best bet is to try the following foods:

Canidae

Innova

Merrick

Wellness

Timberwolf Organics

MUCH better choices!

UPDATE: If your dog has been suffering from bad skin for two years I would recommend that you change his food to Ultra z/d (your vet should have this) and see how he does. It is the lowest allergen food out there. If that food does not clear up his skin issues then you need to get this boy to a Dermatologist. I am SO surprised your vet has allowed this to continue for so long without refering you to the skin specialist. Poor guy!! At this point, I would not put him on any other food that myself and Golden recommended (even though they are wonderful brands!) because he has been dealing with these issues for so long. His poor body needs a break from that Pred!
Reply:Yes, what food is he on? If he is on iams, purina, beneful, eukanuba, or any like those, please switch him to CANIDAE. It worked for our english bulldog.
Reply:Hi Vet Tech!

You took my first question but you feel free any time ! LOL

The most like cause for any dog is food! If your food has corn, wheat, soy, by products of any kind than I'd look at getting your Golden on a very high quality food very soon.

I feed my Golden's Canidae all life stages and I have had no skin issues this summer at all. No hot spots, no ear infections and I have had my Golden's swimming a lot!

I think both Vet Tech and I need more information to help you better ok.

Ok You need much better food than Iams. I call it junk in a bag for Golden's.

Here are high quality food that I recommend for Golden with allergies.

Canidae all life stages

Wellness

Solid Gold

Timber Wolf

These are all natural and have no corn, wheat, soy, by products of any kind. The better the food the less allergens in it. Look for one of these foods and slowly switch over and see with in a month or 2 if your Golden is feeling much better. OK

ADD: 2 years! Oh my that is a very long time for your boy's body to be Pred. I'd get the special food that Vet Tech recommends to an then see how he reacts. It it seems to help than Maybe I'd try on of the foods mentioned by both of us.

If it doesn't help Than I'd get him into a dermatologist real quick!

I'd back off on the baths too. They may be drying his skin out way too much too. If necessary get a good dog Oatmeal shampoo uncented and wash him with that. Then I would not use any conditioner.

I get my shampoo at www.Drs.Foster%26amp;Smith.com

They also have a shampoo for dogs with skin allergies too.

Your Poor Golden boy!
Reply:Take him to a Veterinary Dermatologist - they exist, although you may have to travel to see one. I used to work at a vet where we had a Dermotologist (in the NY area) and she helped hundreds of dogs whose regular vets were unable to help them with the normal course of Pred treatments and the like.

There is no 'easy cure', because your dog may have 3 or 4 things going on that contribute to his allergies. And you definitely dont want to go giving him home remedies unless a vet tells you to - it can make his problem much worse. Its best to either see the specialist or have your vet contact one for a consultation. Good luck :)
Reply:I've had really good luck with California Natural dog food with my allergic dog. Just about anything else, even other companies allergy foods, make her itch.

www.naturapets.com has a store locater. They make Innova and California Natural. With food allergies, the idea is to do an elimination diet. Feed him a food with as little ingredients as possible for several weeks and if he's not itching anymore, gradually add other stuff back in.

My dog was completely naked when her previous owner finally surrendered her to an animal shelter. So far, we haven't had to do any prednisone shots, we've been able to control it all with diet.

Is stress and depression can cause skin allergy?

How can i get rid of my skin allergy?

Ive had skin hives for 8 weeks straight. Ive tried 2 different allergy meds prescribed, but i still get them. I changed laundry detergent to the Unscented/allergy free kind but nothing works. Any suggestions?

How can i get rid of my skin allergy?
CHANGE almost everything.

Bedsheets, for example.

Wash everything in really hot water.

Switch to cotton sheets and clothing. Give up perfume and any kind of soap or body lotion that isn't specifically for your allergies.

Start keeping records of what you touch and use - and when the hives are worse.

Aveeno Oatmeal soap seems to be the safest for me and my ( also allergic) husband. Unscented, of course.
Reply:You may be allergic to something you have ingested, have you been eating something new or taking a new drug? You should probably see an allergist and get a skin test.

Have you been using a topical allergy ointment since it started? I once had poison ivy for a few months until I figured out that the poison ivy had gone and I was allergic to Benedryl.

What is the best dog food for skin allergy, and cost effective?

My lab has the worst case of skin allergy, having lost fur around the eyes and patches on his body. He does not have any form of mange, and has be diagnosed with a possible food allergy. He is already off egg products, and has started venison, but still not much change - HELP!

What is the best dog food for skin allergy, and cost effective?
I have had a similar experience with my Dobe. I have been doing a lot of research on the subject, and it seems to be that less than 20% of allergies in dogs are actually caused by food. Environmental allergies are the most common (and the hardest to eliminate - the grass and trees are everywhere) All the information I've gathered indicates that by boosting your dog's immune system, his body can better defend itself against histamines.

Look into using Flax Seed Oil as a supplement to his regular diet. It's cheap, and it seems to be working. I suffer from chronic hives myself, and even I have began using it.
Reply:Maybe Lamb and Rice
Reply:Nutro food I think is the best!!!! It is organic and it does not contain ground corn. Ground Corn isn't the best thing for dogs. It's not too expensive, actually, very well priced for the quality. Both my dogs eat Nutro and their skin isn't dry nor itchy, and the fur is so shiny.

Good Luck

Reply:it takes about 2-3 weeks to really she a change... but with any food allergic dog you should make sure that there is no wheat or grains in it. i have the same problem with my rott and i just switched food about a week ago and the person i bought it from said that it should take about 2-3 weeks for any NOTICABLE change.

Is grapeseed oil extract causes skin allergy?

i recently taking grapeseed oil extract as my food supplement but after 2 days, skin allergy occurs. what are the side effects of taking grapeseed oil extract?

Is grapeseed oil extract causes skin allergy?
Anything can cause an allergy if you are allergic to it. Since you just recently started taking this extract and just noticed the allergy I would have to suspect the extract. If you've also started something else recently then it could be that as well, but with the current information provided I'd have to suspect the extract.

Remember that natural products like that are not regulated by the FDA and can therefore have varying purity standards. This extract may contain all sorts of impurities that aren't listed, you aren't aware of, and may be down-right dangerous. If you insist on using natural products at least make sure they are from a reputable source/manufacturer preferably approved by the USP or Consumer Labs.

My dogs seem to have skin allergy.Vets said its their food,i've changed many times.Anybody know e cure?

one of my dogs is a maltese, the other is a schnauzer. They didn't have this problem when they were puppies.Seem to have surfaced when they hit adulthood....Their condition looks like what a human skin allergy---eczema. Medicine and change in diet don't seem to work very well.

My dogs seem to have skin allergy.Vets said its their food,i've changed many times.Anybody know e cure?
you have been changing from one crappy food to another (regardless of how much the food costs, it's all crap)

i used to have the same problem with my dogs but only a mild case. however they also had horrible breath, horrible gas and shed like crazy.

i bought a book http://www.amazon.com/Work-Wonders-Feed-...

and i switched my boys immediately per the instructions in the book and within a week they had no gas, their teeth were clean and white, no smelly breath and they shed much less now. and my overweight dog has lost weight and is healthy.

the principle of the book is to feed your dog raw meaty bones, just like they would have if they were wild dogs (or wolves) and have a few fruits and veggies mixed in. the book is wonderful and i suggest it for anyone who wants their dog to be their absolute healthiest.
Reply:Try feeding Fish and Chips or Lamb Millet Rice formulas from Flint River. These are free of wheat, corn, chicken, by products, animal digest, dyes, sugars, and artificial preservatives that are often the cause of food sensitivities and allergies.

Both of these formulas are made to be non allergic, and are made with human grade ingredients, so more is digested, they eat less and there is less waste.

Good luck!
Reply:Our German Shepard cross develops bald spots on either side of her (rib area) each spring because of seasonal allergies. We give her omega-3 capsules 2x a day during April/May, and the spots always clear up by the time we're done with the second bottle of pills (and her coat gets soooo sleek and shiny!). There are lots of brands that are specifically for pets (I just did a quick Google and came up with several, but I didn't see our brand...can't remember the name). It might be worth a shot. Good luck!
Reply:Get a food that does not have corn in it or use corn fillers
Reply:What kind of bowl are you feeding them from? Sometimes it can be as simple as using a plastic bowl...they seem to be sensitive to whatever is in plastic. Switch to glass or ceramic if you don't already use them.
Reply:That's kinda strange that both dogs have the same condition. What kinda food are you feeding them. They could be allergic to wheat, or corn.

I would try feeding them INNOVA EVO. It's 95 % meat. No wheat or corn. You can go online and see where you can buy it in your area. Innova also sells treats. I would try that first. Because its both dogs, I would say it's something in their envirement. Their food, treats, or something outside.
Reply:My westie has a skin problem as- well. This is cause by heat or the skin being very dry. first of all minumize the amount of times the dogs are bathed. That just causes irritation. Also be careful on the amount of anti-biotics they are exposed to. It can cause bad side effects, i know of one westie that went deaf.

If the diet isnt helping, put them on a natural diet. Basiclly humane food. Read up on natural dog diets before you do.

This tends to help bad skin problems. Always make sure they are not over exposed to any heat.

And i would also recommend going to a diffrent vet and getting a second opinion.

Good Luck!
Reply:I would recommend a VERY simple diet - essentially boiled (or broiled) chicken and rice. In fact, this could be a good diet for you as well! LOL! Rice is easy to digest and has some vitamins and the chicken adds protein, but not at high levels (like steak).

As they are small dogs, you can prepare some chicken and rice once or twice a week and refrigerate the rest, serving a bit for each meal (you can warm it if you choose, but chicken tends to microwave poorly).

An alternative is chicken and rice dry food. Talk to your vet about a high quality food. Stores often carry lower costs and lower quality foods, which could cause them problems. I give chicken and rice dry puppy food to my two 11-month old pups and so far so good. The dry food also helps their teeth (scrapes away bacteria).

You could also add or substitute cottage cheese into their diet. This is another item with essential proteins, but not a high-protein diet. For both the chicken %26amp; rice and cottage cheese diets, you may need to add some fruit or vegetables to ensure that they get all essential nutrients (vitamins and minerals).

Lastly, you may try just a bit of oil to their diets - just a spoonful over their dry chicken and rice dog food. Be careful with this as too much oil can cause them to gain weight (as oil is fat). But the extra oil may help their skin and coat, which may be very dry.

Also, take a good look around your home. Are there carpets, furniture or deoderants that you use on either that could cause them problems? How about plants outside? Any chance they are rubbing up against some plants that could cause an allergic reaction? You may need to wash your carpets, steam clean your furniture and even remove some plants. Additionally, have they been on long-term antibiotics or do you bathe them frequently? Both will cause problems, so please cut back if possible (if they are on antibiotics, talk to your vet about why and if they can stop - get a second opinion if necessary).

Good luck!
Reply:I use Show Stopper supplement and my dogs are doing great on it, their skin %26amp; coat are beautiful and no problems! You can get it on line, just Google it for the best price. All the best;^)
Reply:this might sound silly but my dog was having a really bad problem like that and it was the cat. my dog was allergic to the cat so if you have a cat keep that in mind. silly isn't it
Reply:First, make sure the food doesn't have any grains in it. That's usually the number one cause of allergies in dogs.

Second, give the dogs time to get used to the food. It may take some time before their allergies will clear up. You can't expect them to clear up overnight.

Consider adding n'zymes to their daily regimen:

http://nzymes.com/

Look into a holistic food such as Eagle Pack:

http://eaglepack.com/

Or consider a simple diet of boiled chicken and/or fish with rice and/or potatoes.

Add some fish oil to their diet.

Try giving them a medicated bath, like an oatmeal bath, regularly.

Good Luck!
Reply:You have two dogs with allergy problems? Lucky you, I only have one with food allergies. I went to a fish and potato food and it is working for the most part. Medicated shampoo I get from the vet. keeps it under control. Check the plants in your yard and where you are walking them. Dust mites can be a problem for dogs. Of coarse they are not having a flea problem, right? You can go to the vet. and spend around $250 to have allergy tests run.

I hope you can figure it out for your dogs.

I used to have such skin problems too. After using the Olive Manon products from Japan, my skin condition is in very much better condition now.

Reply:What else can I do?

See an allergist!!! Let them TEST you to find out! Your have a terrible reaction and you need to carry a Pen with you go give yourself injections so you don't get these reactions. Your doctor can give you an injection to "dry up" some poison ivy/oak's and you get through your reactions to them in over 1/2 the time, it really helps! Good luck!

Also, you said Poison Ivy, how about Poison Oak?

Be careful you don't get anaphylactic shock.
Reply:You could have a yeast rash. Try Tinactin cream and keep gauze tucked into the groin area. Keeping dry is important. Bottom line though is check with a dermatologist if you can.

Does anyone really do the skin allergy test when dyeing their hair?

it says to perform a skin allergy test and u have to wait 48 hrs. to make sure ur not allergic. i doubt i'm allergic to it, and i don't want to wait. i also don't thing that most people pay any attention to the allergy test.

Does anyone really do the skin allergy test when dyeing their hair?
most people don't. The manufacturer's are required by law to write that though to avoid lawsuits in the rare event that someone is allergic.
Reply:I have personally never dyed my hair, but my friend did and she got a rash on her neck. you definitely should in my opinion
Reply:I don't perform the skin allergy test and I color my hair ALOT.

Just put some kind of hair protector oil or cream around the hairline...it helps.

You can also use vaseline since it wipes right off.

I hope you love your color!!!
Reply:I never have and I've dyed mine a few times. I'd say go for it, but if your skin burns or anything like that wash it out right away. Good luck!
Reply:I've never done it and it works just fine for me. As a matter of fact, I just dyed my hair friday without doing the test and nothing bad so far.
Reply:Ive only seen one person allergic to color, and unfortuantly she is a colorist, she she has to wear heavy duty gloves. Her skin falls off when she comes into contact with color. So if your worried, I'd do it, but the chances of actually being allergic are slim.
Reply:ive dyed my hair 50 times and i have never done the allergy test

its a waste of time
Reply:I have been coloring my hair for about 20 years and have never performed the skin allergy test and never had a problem. If you do not have sensitive skin, then you are probably fine.
Reply:most people ignore the allergy warning. i used to until i got too confident after dying frequently, and then my scalp turned bright red and became inflamed from the dye
Reply:If you've ever dyed your hair before without a reaction, you should be alright. I've never done the allergy test myself, and I've been dyeing my hair for well over 10 years without any reactions.
Reply:I wouldnt worry about it unless you have other allergies or have had reactions to products before.

i'm assuming since this is in alternative medicine that you are looking for alternatives to antibiotics and the like

try sandalwood essential oil

try a charcoal poultice

try virgin coconut oil

find out what is causing it and stop eating, drinking, smoking, laundering with it, or hanging around it

All the best!

it is oatmeal based they have bath treatments for the all over body relief and for in between or small spots there is aveeno anti-itch lotion

when i use the lotion i will spread it about 1" past the hive

walmart sells these and any pharmacy

they are on the pricey side but soooo worth it when the itching finally stops

in a pinch i will pour one cup of oatmeal in the tub with half cup of baking soda but be ready for a mess

but a good strainer will help after you get out of the tub don't let the water out and run the strainer back and forth to get the oatmeal out or it will plug up your drains

See if you can determine what caused the problem and stay away from it for starters. Hard to tell what to do for it - a rash could be allergy, or measles, or anything - blisters? could be poison oak, etc etc. Red, itchy, dry? might be allergy - maybe hydrocortisone cream over the counter would help. If not, see your doctor.

Cortaid for Skin Allergy for Pregnant Woman?
She should see a dermatologist about this.

In response to whether it is safe for pregnant women, this site has a toll-free line where you can get specific info about certain medications and whether or not they are safe. When pregnant, if in doubt, DON'T!

Reply:This is basically an immune reaction, possibly allergy. All Allergies come from the same root cause.

A group of complex carbohydrates should normally be attached the proteins of every single cell in the human body.

The transfer of all biological data at cellular level depends upon all of those carbohydrates being in place.

Allergies are simply the result of the Immune System being compromised by the depletion of one or more of these carbohydrates. This is four times Nobel Prize winning science, with 350,000 scientific papers being written about it already.

Replacing these missing carbohydrates is quite straight forward, and completely repairs immune function.

No drugs, chemicals or other garbage - will probably enhance pregnancy.

My 8 Month Old kid skin allergy come and go but not itchy?

I got a kid who's 8 month old now. I think he had food allergy because everytime he eats red spot, not exactly red but like mosquito bites appear everywhere, arms, legs, face, etc.

His allergy appeared when he was around 6 month old and started to introduce solid food. and changed his milk (same brand) to 6 mos onwards. Its a hypoallgergenic brand.

We can't seem to find whats the cause of the allergy, we stopped feeding him solid food for one week and still some of the red spots still appear. Fed him yesterday after one week with potatoes and BOOM! lots of it appear. Before potatoes were ok with him. I suspect the milk is the culprit but its the same brand we give him since he was one day old.

His allergy is not life threathening, just red spots appear around him, give him zyrtec (antihistamine) and he'll be fine. and his skin is not itchy. just red.

Anyone can help me?

My 8 Month Old kid skin allergy come and go but not itchy?
at 8 months old a baby can't always tell you if they are itchy and while it doesn't seem life threatening now repeated exposure can lead to the allergies getting much worse. Is he on Zyrtec everyday? You have to do a process of elimanation and find out what might be causing it but it could also be multiple things causing it. My 2 year old is allergic to peanuts but he also started breaking out with hives the other day and he hadn't had exposure to any peanuts so that means he has another allergy so we are trying to figure out the trigger. Some babies have several allergies making it hard to pinpoint which one is causing the reaction. Also babies can develop allergies after repeated exposure to things so maybe your little one was having a reaction you didn't notice and it finally got bad enough to notice. You will probably have to keep a log like i do of what you feed your baby and when and if you notice any reactions (some reactions can take 24-48 hrs to appear).
Reply:you didn't say what kinds of milk you were giving him, soybean milk or form now theyhave. i was on soybean milk and could barely have that .all 4 of my children are allergy to milk . time to go the Dr. a call. believe me it can be serious later. i was older and found out i was allergy to a lot of foods and 3 years old when they found out why i was so sick all the time and hospital visits i could i couldn't digest fiber at all and it was serious very serious. if are using zyrtec its allergy to something your giving him . my daughter son was using that and i keep telling her it was the milk sure enough it was. the dr keep telling her what i had wrong didn't effect him, sometime family problems do get passed on. just play it safe and make a dr visit with a baby dr. also write down everything you give him and bath the baby in to what soap you wash the clothes in when you go to the dr. by the time you get it you also everything you do in the house cleaning what you use. just that one in case he's crawling. good luck
Reply:Immediately change hew milk. Try Fresh milk with 40-50% water mixing. Alergy will cover with age. Just use as solid food Half fried egg, Banana, Custard, Rice, etc. Don't use High calories food for baby.

Use EVIL Syrup three times a day. Use for one week

Always use cotton dress for baby no wool nothing else.

This type of allergy usually happen in babies less than 2-3 years. Don't wrap baby in extra cloth, mean baby shouldn't be extra warm. That is also cause. This type of allergy on all skin is due to food only. He has no skin problem.

Please help, my 6 years old daughter is having skin allergy, don't know what's the causes of it..?

I had skin allergy during her first month, had to take that time the post natal medicines and at the same time had taken shots for several times due to severe skin allergies all over my head down to my feet, I was also breastfeeding that time since my OB informed me that it's still safe even if I had injections then because my allergy lasted for a month. My Q is, does it have any connection to my medical history that my daughter also need to suffer, can't trace the source of her allergy once she sneeze then trigger a colds then allergy on skin will appear even if she had eaten for at least an hour or 2, she likes to eat fruits and vegetables, seldom seafoods, the attack can be morning or evening and even on anytime of the day..I consulted a pedias they both prescribed Zyrtec and for the skin betamethasone lotion, but then everyday she still experience it and the lotion and medication's almost finish what do you think should I do? She also have allergic rhinitis..

Please help, my 6 years old daughter is having skin allergy, don't know what's the causes of it..?
please go see a doctor, and try to observe what she is eating always or what are the things that making her to have an allergy
Reply:the problem is you can be allergic to anything the body comes into contact with. (I am allergic to nickel)... firstly you need to find out what it is. It will take a while but you need to take out certain foods... for instance try her on Soya or Rice milk instead if normal for a week. If it continues take out gluten containing products... then wheat, dairy (with milk), etc At least if they continue you will know food is not causing it. It may take a while but when you know, you can combat it.

Wish you all the best.
Reply:Literally keep a diary of everything, time, reaction, and so forth of every meal. Oh that's HARD, and worth every minute of it, when YOU zero in on the problem.

My doctors didnt help much either. Mine gave him Zyrtec as well, and that is just for allerigic rhinitis (which is a symptom) of the allergy, this will not fix the problem, just the symptom.

Be safe keep Benaryl on hand, that works better anyway, it blocks the histmines that "cause" the actual outbreak both internal and external. Most of us do not know, that it occurs both ways, some throats close or digestive tracts get very congestive on top of the skin rash. Its not just external. I learned that the hard way!

Mine is allergic to dairy! Its in everything. Removed that from his diet, so much better. His nose, throat and ear infections are gone! We use "silk" milk and its wonderful, the chocolate is yummy! I actually will blend it with raw fruit and make an icecream for them kids. Use the Vanilla, just like regular milk, in mashed potatoes to cereal or to drink.

Also allergic to the cleansers on the floor.

the perfumed vacuum fragrance

the laundry soap on his bed linens

Chemicals on the veggies, fruits, use a spray cleaner to rinse and scrub them very well, before cooking or chopping or even allowing them to eat baby carrots.

So I went "green" for most of these items and in the process of removing the carpets. [ Note green is cool, yet its not cheap in most cases, that is the real hangup for that]

I wash his linens with baby soap (okay for him- easier for me) still and rinse them in Hot and then in Cold water with NO other fabric softeners and etc in the wash or dryer. Big time change there. His clothes as well, where he sweat, he broke out in hives. When I clean the floors, I rinse them very well. and I purchased a "steam" cleaner to do the bathroom tub and kitchen table. amazingly- my allergies are so much better too.

My newly adopted daughter, we did the same thing with her, her behavior was "WILD" on a good day. So we have removed sugar (lots of artifical, fruits are okay) and as much gluten from her diet and her behavior has radically changed.

Oh that has changes our lives big time. Yet her ADD/OCD is radically different, she is a much happier child, so its worth the difference. We also removed her from dairy as well, and her sleeping patterns changed, it was remarkable.

We eat tons of "flavored" popped kernal corn, with spray butter and cinnamon/slpendra or we have Boiled eggs, raw nuts, veggies with a salsa dip....its amazing. We are a much healthier family now. Actually their allergies has saved all of our lives. No more juices, we drink water or decaf teas.

Best wishes, Good luck.
Reply:first thing is there might be a connection with your symptom and what your baby has. the solution is not to panic, the questions are is your baby having a hard time breathing, do you hear stridor in his or hers upper airway ( stridor is a high pitch sound when exhaling), does the rash grow in size or does it stay the same, is the medication helping at all. with the airway such as hard time breathing, stridor, or alot of mucus this is a medical emergency also a temp of 102 or greater. the others are normal for a baby who is adapting to the world for the first time. if you feel that the meds are not helping your baby then feel free to ask you pediatric doctor for a stronger med if possible.
Reply:Your Answer is given below :

When cold continuous even after taking regular treatment over a period of 2 to 5 years, it is termed as 'cold' due to Allergy and when there is congestion, it is termed as Bronchial Allergy. Inspite of researches, this Allergy is not understood and so it is not cured. And as result, the patient has to suffer for entire life and be in a perpetual fear of catching Allergy any time.

It is true that painful tests are taken to find out the cause which creates Allergy. Then Anti-allergic injections are prepared and given to the patients. Then Allergy seems to be cured for a short while, but apperars again and makes the life of the patient miserable. Although Allergy is not fatal, it is considered to be dreaded.

The basic fact is that common cold is not understood and neither is Allergy. Most of the 'Common Cold' is due to excess heat in the body. Now when such common cold continues, the endocrine gland of Thyroid and Parathyroid is the first to be disturbed. As no treatment is taken to correct the function of this gland, it starts functioning less efficiently. This endocrine gland controls the digestion of calcium and so when this endocrine gland does not work efficiently slowly, but steadily a deficiency of calcium is created in the body. Disturbance in the Thyroid/Parathyroid gland leads to disturbance of Adrenal gland, which controls 'fire' element of the body, i.e. spleen, liver and gall bladder and it also controls proper oxygenation. Thus, less functioning of these vital endocrine glands reduces the of resistance power of the body.

This vicious cycle continues. The drugs consumed to cure common cold only increase heat in the body which in turn damages the liver-the radiator of the body. Moreover, due to the continuation of cold for a period of two to three years, even the lungs lose their capacity to throw out toxins gathered from the blood. The net result is that the body develop Allergy for something. The over burdened nerves develop irritation against certain things like perfumes, pollen, dust, etc. And so when the patients come to contact with that particular thing; the nerve get excited.

The Allergy point (Acupressure) No.21 on the front and back of the right hand palm sends signals, one to the liver to slow down its functioning so the excess heat can be produced and the other an SOS to the brain to defend against this enemy. Yhe body knows only one language of defence-it creates Heat. The Brain produces more H+ i.e. Histami. After a while, the brain comes to know that Allergy point had sent a wrong signal and realises that nothing has gone into the system of the body. And so, in order to remove the excess heat from the body it creates cold by taking one atom of oxygen from the air we breathe and mixes it with two atoms of Hydrogen, i.e. H2O= water. These results in sneezing, watering of the nose and eyes, coughing, vomiting, etc. This fight in the body between the excess heat and cold results in brathlessness, depression, etc. This is not understood and so instead of helping to remove the excess heat and increasing the power of resistance of the body by reducing the deficiency of calcium , drugs like anti-histamin are given to curb the Allergy. For the time being, this process of removing the excess heat from the body is arrested. But very soon, the body starts this process of throwing out the excess heat-which is considered to be another attack of Allergy. The vicious cycle continues. And so, even Adrenal gland is more damaged-which damages oxygenation in the body-creates more breathlessness and creates more and more weakness in the body-leading to more depression and the power of resistance of the body becomes so low that the patient develops Allergy even against microscopic dust.

Now, once we have understood about Allergy, 'cure' is very easy. For immediate cure; take treatment on point No. 21 on the front and back of palm on the right hand.

2. Start taking Cal. phos 6 or 12 i.e. 3 pills in the morning and 3 pills in the evening-This will reduce the deficiency of calcium.

3. Take Kali Phos 200-8 pills on the first day and then once a week. Then take Kali Phos 12-3 pills in the morning and 3 pills in the evening. This Biochemic medicine will soothe the excited nerves, and the Allergy will under control. During this treatment, drinking gold/silver/copper charged water of 2 glasses reduced from 4 glasses is also advisable.

TO REMOVE ALLERGY PERMANENTLY THE PATIENT MUST DO THE FOLLOWING :

(a) Treatment of excess heat from the body do this : (i) Take as first thing in the morning 1 teaspoonful of haritki churna (harde powder-powder of terminalia chebula retz)+1/2 teaspoon of sugar for 8 to 10 days continuously, then twice a week. This will also keep the bowels clean.

(ii) Take an equal quantity of cumin seed powder(Jeera), black pepper(Kali Mirch), saunf(Sauwp), amla powder, crystal sugar(Misri), and ginger powder(Saunth). Grind them into powder and keep it in a bottle. Take 1 teaspoonful of this powder with water in the morning and evening.

(b) Drink 2 to 3 cups of green juice adding in it 1 teaspoon of Helath Drink + 1 tablespoonful of honey. This will supplement Vitamin "C" and digestive power and increase the power of resistance of the body.

(c) Drink 2 glasses of charged water reduced from 4 glasse. This will empower the brain and the resistance power.

(d) and also take the following Bio-chemic salts : Cal. Phos 6 or 12 -3 pills in the morning %26amp; evening for 45 days.

Kali Phos 200 -8 pills once a week. Kali Phos 12 or 30 -3 pills in the morning %26amp; evening.

(e) Treatment of Acupressure is a MUST.

(f) And take Blue Light on the chest and back for 5 to 7 minutes twice a day. That will empoer the weakened lungs. Once you start feeling beeter finish the Pranaym with prolonged breath-alternatively from right and left nostril-repeat it at least 10/20 times. If possile also do Kapabhati and Bhastrika.

(g) In case of breathlessness, do the following :

Ask the patient to lie down on the back between 11 A.M. to 4 P.M. and open his/her mouth wide open. And pour 1 tablespoonful of honey directly into the throat in such a way that honey does not touch the tongue. And thus, just in 45 days , the body would have built up enough resistance power-removed the deficiency of calcium and also empowered all the endocrnie glands. So the patient will become free from Allergy and its fear.

I think so, you are satisfied.
Reply:Maritz: Take your daughter to an allergist or immunologist. If her skin is not in bad shape from eczema or psorassis they can do some simple skin testing that will determine exactly what is causing the problems. This way you won't go around guessing and trying things that may or may not work. This kid is only 6 years old and she needs to focus on being a great kid, not a sick kid! Once the specialist has determined the source of the allergic reaction then two things will happen. First you can get the appropriate medication to help with systems (allergy is chronic..it is not cured it is controlled) and just as important you will know what to do to reduce her exposure. By avoiding or reducing the exposure, you will stop the allergic reaction and the sympotms will subside or go away. Some common food allergies are tree nuts, peanuts, seafood. Most common household allergens are dust mite, cockroach, pollen, and mold. You can take steps to avoid all of these in your home, you just have to know that you are fighting first. I would insist that the pediatrician give you that referral to the allergist or immunologist right away so you can get this child some relief.

Skin allergy tests.?

im having a skin allergy test done soon, whats involved in this, does hurt and will it make me bad and if so how long for.

thanx in advance.

Skin allergy tests.?
Right, first of all, if you take antihistamines regularly you should not take them for 48 hours before the test as this will reduce the reactions and hide any allergies.

Secondly, the nurse/doctor will clean the skin and place a drop of pure allergens on to the skin, they mark which allergen it is on the skin and then they use a sharp "needle" to prick the top layer of skin underneath the allergen. This allows the allergen to enter into the prick site. You will then have to wait for a while (at my consultation with an Immunologist it took 10 minutes). They then wipe off the droplets and measure the reaction to each allergen in comparison to the control test they do (just the same thing but it's guaranteed to react). It doesn't really hurt and the skin pricks are over very quickly. They may mark around the reaction site and then use sellotape to transfer the results onto a sheet of paper for your notes.

I've had both forearms done twice. (28 drops on each arm both times). You probably won't have this much, I have severe allergies and go into anaphylaxis so my Immunologist had to do extensive tests to find what was causing it.
Reply:They clean the skin, mark you with a pen to show where they have put the potential allergens, drip the solutions on the skin and then prick you through the drip, then you go and wait for a time, go back and they measure the size of reaction.

I wouldn't think that you would feel bad unless you have a particularly strong adverse reaction
Reply:they just do a little tiny poke on the top of your skin up your arm with the differnt things that you could be alergic to. after that they might use a syringe to put some just under the skin and see how you react to that. all together it takes about hour, but it isn't too bad.
Reply:Using the inside of your arm (or the back if skin is broken/eczema) they will blob tiny amounts of common allergens in a clear fluid, plus a control area. They then give it a very tiny scratch/prick to introduce it into your body. Then after a little time they check and if you have a reaction/hive/little bump they say you are allergic. You can also have a blood test for this.....

It is not painful, but might be a little itchy if you are allergic, but then you just have an antihistamine AFTER you test.
Reply:I had these done many years back, if they haven't changed they really are nothing to worry about. I had some rows of fluid placed on the inside of my lower arm. These contained 'common allergy inducing stuff' (very technical, I know). Then they pressed something onto my arm that just sort of made indents. Not painful at all.
Reply:CG. Its nothing to worry or get stressed about. Heck, you don't even have to study for allergy tests! Depending on the number of allergens they will test for, they will mark off an area of your arm or back. The things they test for are molds and pollens common to your area, common household allergens (like dust mite), and based on your avatar I bet they will test for cat allergy too! After they mark the areas (cause they are going to need a road map) they will make a little prick on the skin. They will be introducing a small amount of allergen. Based on the size of the whep or amount of redness they can determine your level of sensitivity. But, if you have a reaction to something then you are allergic. There is no such thing as "a little allergic" that is like being just "a little pregnant". Either you are or you are not. You should be good to go in an hour or an hour and a half. You should not feel bad as a result of the tests. But, if you have a severe reaction, then the good news is you are right there in the doctor's office and they can handle it better than you could at home. So, relax, don't worry, and know that you are taking an important step in controlling your health and the quality of your life. Good Luck!

Skin allergy advice?

i have a known and tested allergy and take levoceterizine to help this doesnt always help and my skin goes red and burns and my eyes run when i come into contact with people with strong perfumes and deoderants on.obviously i cant avoid people,is there anything better than this tablet to take and i cant take piriton.thanks

Skin allergy advice?
It shouldn't make your eyes water but maybe u r especially sensitive to this drug. Sometimes people have severe allergic reactions to some drugs. Another one named Cetirizine (Zyrtec) has been used for allergies but u didn't say what type of allergies so this is for allergies in general.. Does your doctor know about your reactions? There r many medications u need to avoid when taking this drug (the lev.......) and taking any of them can alter the affect of the lev.... such as; aspirin, ibuprophen, nutritional supplements and some herbs. Maybe u should talk to doctor and tell him this information. Good Luck

Canine skin allergy symptoms-how to help?

I have a dog with itching problem. I use canine advanitx on her and have also been giving her supplements for skin and coat.

I understand that benadryl(diphenhydramine) helps provide relief. Drs Foster/Smith sells benadryl in 50 mg caps. That is plenty for a person, it seems like a lot for an animal.

I am interested in hearing what other dog owners have had success with, in terms of treating canine skin allergy symptoms?

Canine skin allergy symptoms-how to help?
Switching to raw diet. I had my two-year old GSD allergy tested at six month intervals, went nuts trying to buy the best quality kibble with none of the forbidden ingredients, tried elimination diet, a few different medications, and holistic treatments. 18 months of all this for a baby two-year old dog. Well, switching to raw cleared it up within a week. I've heard this story repeated over and over from other people to the point where I no longer believe these skin problems are actually allergies but are in fact reactions to kibble, just as your face might break out in zits if you ate McDonalds for a week or two straight.

Good luck in your search for a solution. I know first-hand what a frustrating process it can be.
Reply:Change her food to Nutra Max Natural Choice. My dog itched, lost his hair, had hot spots, etc., until I changed his food. This food worked wonders for years!!
Reply:I'd suggest getting a consultation with your vet along with an exam. Some dogs are food allergic, in which keeping them on a specific food can cure the problem. Some have environmental allergies - species of grasses, trees, pollens...we had a poor cocker who came in once that was found to be highly sensitive to Bahaya grass, oak pollen and HUMAN DANDER :)

He obviously started allergy vaccine! LOL

The Benedryl would be an option for sporadic relief, as well as PERHAPS steroids (which most vets don't like giving, they can mess up the systems in dogs and especially cats), but I would definitely call the vet before giving anything, as your vet knows the history, age, weight, any other medical problems the pooch may have that may conflict with anything you may goodheartedly want to give him.

Good Luck!
Reply:My dog had this when he was a puppy. We took him into the vet and the vet gave us some pills to give him. It worked!
Reply:Benedryl is very safe for your pet, Only side affect would be possible drowsiness. The dosage is 1 MG per pound of pet so 25 pound dog would get 25 MG of benedryl. Get dog on a GOOD dog food and may need a vitamin supplement also.
Reply:Both of my dogs have allergies and to different things. My Pit has food allergies as well as allergies to flea control. My Lab as envirnomental and has had a hard time. The Pit was easy to fix he is on an excellent diet ( Royal Canin we tried everything including Holistic foods and Royal Canin is the only one that worked). We also only use all natural flea control ( no chemicals) anything else cause him to have an allergic reaction. He is fine that way and no drugs. My Lab was having extreme allergy problems and was on Benedryl and steriods. I hated the side effects of both and could not stand how awful he felt. He is on Royal Canin and a Holistic blend- Raw Intstinct. I really like the Holistic foods so i tried Holistic treatment and it is the first Meds and treatment that works. I thought nothing would work but this does and it is all natural and NO SIDE EFFECTS. FInd and an all natural pet store or go to www.azmira.com. Azmira is the manufacturer of the products. My dog get Yucca Intensive drops ( all natural steriod but no side effects) and he gets Allerg' Free (which replaces the Benedryl and is all natural) This combination is absolutely amazing and my dog is doing EXCELLENT and no longer scratching himself to death. Nothing prior to this worked and I spent hundreds at the vet. I also use Richard's Organic Incredible Skin Spray, I tried everything known to man and this stuff is absolutely amazing/ It is also all natural and has all natural antibiotics in it to stop and aviod infection. Your dog will instantly stop itching. You can only find it at an all natural pet store but it is well worth it. Trust me I tried everything prior to this regime and nothing helped my Lab until now. Nothing the vets did worked it only caused health problems but now my dogs are itch free and happy. Good Luck.

My probl is itching in my skin. if i scratch on my skin, within second red mark comes where i scratch, if i write my name on my skin, it will appear soon. one doctor gave me a allergy tablet "teczine" while i am having this tablet,i am alright, but if i miss this one day, i can't sleep, bcze my whole body too much itching

Please help me

Question about Skin allergy?
You should see a dermatologist. They can do a patch test to find out what you are allergic to. This will help you to avoid what is causing the problem, thereby reducing or even eliminating the need for drugs.
Reply:hi sibinps,

I too have the same problem. It started 3 months ago and I have changed 2 docotors too but still no one could diagnose the cause for this itching. I tried Allegra, Teczine. If u find a remedy for this problem please post it Report It

On the skin allergy tests. Have you had one?

The other day my docotor recommended that i have a skin allergy test done. However, I'm worried that they'll find something that will give me a serious reaction. For those of you who have had one, did they mention how likely this was (since its only tested on the skin and not injected) and what kind of allergens did they test for (average, wisespread with families, and/or rare allergies?). I'd also like to know how much they charged. Thanks :D

On the skin allergy tests. Have you had one?
If you have chronic urticaria and idiopathic anaphylaxis, then skin testing is contra-indicated. First, chronic urticaria is rarely caused by allergies, and there is a high incidence of false positive reactions, making it a waste of time and money. Second, if you have idiopathic anaphylaxis, there is the risk of the testing causing you to go into anaphylactic shock. If the IA is due to some underlying mast cell disorder, again the incidence of false positives can be high.

For typical allergies, there is a slight risk of a severe reaction. However, I don't know any allergist that would do testing without rescue meds immediately at hand (epi, steroid, and antihistamine injections). If you have reason to be very concerned because of previous severe allergic reactions, ask your doctor about alternatives, such as RAST or patch tests.

Allergens tested are usually foods you eat, local pollen, stuff you would normally come into contact with. I had skin testing done back in the 1980s, and at that time it was a couple hundred dollars for a complete panel; they tested something like 60 different allergens on me. I also had some RAST tests done a few years before that, they were around $20 for each allergen. I believe RAST testing produces a lot less incidence of false positive results than skin testing (prick or patch).
Reply:Most insurances cover this allergy test and since it isn't injected just itches and turns red i had 60 pricks and they tested everything on me..
Reply:I've had it done. It did not pick up allergies I know I have and it did not find any I did not know I had. Also, it was pointless for me because I wasn't willing to have allergy shots. I'm not sure how much it costs because my insurance paid for it.
Reply:the first testing they will do is probably for pollens and some other common allergies like soy or peanut..etc. I don't believe it will give you a serious reaction if it is a skin prick test. They will look for bumps that raise up and will be itchy....it will kinda look like hives. If it becomes to obnoxious and itches, they will recommend for you to take some antihistamine after the test is done. I don't know how much they charge for the skin testing though.
Reply:I've had it done 2 times. It does not hurt. I had over 100 items tested the last time. They test for dirt, mold, all kinds of trees, flowers, etc. You will be fine. It's important to have the tests done so the doctor will know what you are allergic to, and how to treat it. They can treat you with a prescription (anti-histamine) or shots (little needles).

I don't know how much it cost because my insurance paid for it. Call the doctor and ask how much it costs, and if you have insurance, how much is covered by it. Good luck.
Reply:oh don worry about it...they just pinch ur arm with substances and the part of ur arm that gets swollen represents the substance ur allergic to...its no big deal and u wont have any serious reactions....i dunno how much they charge..but i think u should do ur own search on the net...or contact ur doctor and ask him how the test is done and how much it costs..good luck!
Reply:I didn't have one but I do it for patients. We call it Patch testing. Allergens like hair dye, ink, cement, fragrances, nickel, metals, ointments, eye drops, nail polish, lotion %26amp; deodorant contents, shampoo.etc...almost every stuff that you use in your body and can be found in your environment. It will not cause major reactions since it will only be tested (it will be put on your back like a patch) for 72 hours. And just the minimal amount introduced. It will itch (like an ordinary allergy/ insect bite) and will just bring slight discomfort since you are not allowed to wet your back as the test is being conducted. It is a good test especially if you are not sure of where your allergies are coming from. We had one patient that have this itch on his armpits %26amp; head..found out that the shampoo %26amp; deodorant he has been using has this same content he is allergic to. Go for the test.. I think the doctor is giving you the best way to finally find out where all your itch are coming from. Hope I have helped u :)
Reply:they will have you check off common foods and then check for dust mites and danders! it is not serious just a lil red bump about as big as a skeeter bite go and do not worry it is nothing!
Reply:I have had several in my life. They used to do them on the back. Now they just use the arms. Tiny pin pricks and then a drop on each spot. Most do nothing. Some swell up like mosquito bites. They look at the size of the dot and rate them from 1 to 4. I was tested for a wide variety of tree, grass, mold pollens, cat, dustmites, and foods. Ragweed gave me a serious reaction, I puffed up so they had to wait to do the foods. Don't worry, they have stuff on hand for serious reactions. I didn't need an epi pen.

They are going to ask you circumstances when you have had reactions. Times of year. In my case, since I am worse in the spring and fall--they were pretty sure on pollens.

Sorry but I don't remember how much it cost since it has been several years. But the shots have helped me a great deal. I used to have my eyes glue shut in ragweed season. Now I am pretty much symptom free as long as I take clarinex.
Reply:Avoiding allergic triggers is an important part of allergy and asthma management, as well as controlling allergic reactions to venomous insects and foods. Your doctor will normally ask you a series of questions in order to identify factors in your environment that may be triggering your symptoms. Skin testing helps your doctor to confirm your sensitivity so that appropriate avoidance advice can be given. This may be followed by allergy testing (using skin tests or RAST) to help confirm or exclude the presence of sensitivity. Results are available within 15 20 minutes. It is important to note that all test results must be interpreted in the context of a careful history.

Medications with antihistamine-like actions (antihistamines, some cold remedies, tricyclic antidepressants) are normally withheld for 3-5 days before testing as these will interfere with the results of testing. You may also be advised to avoid creams and moisturisers on your forearms for a similar period of time to reduce the likelihood that allergen extracts will "run" into each other.

How testing is done

Skin prick testing is most commonly performed on the forearm, although the back is sometimes used. The arm is first cleaned with alcohol, then a drop of commercially-produced allergen extract is placed onto a marked area of skin. Using a sterile lancet, a small prick through the drop is made. This allows a small amount of allergen to enter the skin. If you are allergic, a small mosquito-like lump will appear at the site of testing over 15-20 minutes. Skin tests are slightly uncomfortable, but is usually well tolerated and accurate, even in small children and infants.

Skin testing in infants and children

Skin tests are slightly uncomfortable, but is usually well tolerated and accurate, even in small children and infants.

Rationale for skin prick testing

Underneath the lining of the skin, gut, lungs, nose and eyes are mast cells. These are designed to kill worms and parasites and contain granules filled with irritant chemicals (including histamine). Mast cells are also armed with proteins called IgE antibodies, which act as remote sensors in the local environment. A person allergic to house dust mite, for example, will have IgE antibodies capable of recognising the shape of dust mite allergens, in much the same way that a lock "recognises" the shape of a key. When this happens, mast cells are triggered to release their contents into the tissues, triggering an allergic reaction.

In patients with hay fever or asthma, testing usually includes house dust mite, cat and dog dander (perhaps other animals if contact occurs), mold spores and relevant grass pollens, weed and tree pollens and sometimes occupational allergens in those with hay fever or asthma. Testing can also be used to confirm suspected food allergy and stining insect venom allergy. Skin testing has been shown to improve the accuracy of diagnosis in clinical studies.

While food allergy is more common in people with asthma than the general population, it is a rarely triggers asthma alone. Instead, asthma is usually accompanied by severe itchy hives, swelling or dizziness or gut cramps. Since irrelevant small false positive reactions to food occur in up to 5 per cent of subjects, and as such results are often misleading, testing for food sensitivity is not considered routine in the absence of a history suggesting food allergy as well.

Skin testing is not a reliable way of confirming suspected reactions to aspirin or food additives, and you will need to discuss such concerns with your doctor.
